Left work early on Friday and headed out for a drive. I didn’t want to deal with the boat because I had to be home pretty early, so I just drove down to the causeway at MacBride and fished for a little while around the handicapped pier.
Saw at least one familiar face out for a spring shakedown cruise. That big blue Ranger is pretty recognizable, especially if you’ve got your name scrawled on the side of it!
In typical MacBride fashion, about ten minutes after Chitwood idled by at no-wake speed, a boat with a 9.9 ran the same path at full throttle, throwing up enough of a wake that I had to back up from the water’s edge. The more I fish that lake during open water the more it irritates me that I am not allowed to dunk the prop on my gas motor most of the summer. I’ve had smaller boats throw a wake over the bow of my boat, but heaven forbid I should be able to use anything more than my electric. I’m ranting… need to stop.
Anyways, some gills have started to move shallow, but are not yet aggressive by any means. A handful of tiny crappies mixed in, but I suspect the majority of fish are still deeper.
