Fished Coon lake for 4hrs today and only caught 4 northerns. A buddy lives on the lake who never fishes and I want to get him on some fish. I usually crush the bass and do well for them on docks, but that’s out of his skill range so I figured northern would be easier. I threw spinner bates and crankbaits in 7-10fow. Any advice?

I’ll be out there all day tomorrow. I’ll let you know what I find.

I usually like to cast and troll daredevils in and around the largest weedbeds.

Northerns might be out of your skill range.

Coon lake is never been a fun lake for me to fish. I grew up next to it and fished it a million times. But any given chance I would go to a lake down the road.
The pike on that lake are easy target. Right now I would focus shallow and warmer water. Jerk baits are a awesome bait to move them at this time of year.

Just wait and get into some bluegill, or you could fish for crappie in the bulrushes.

The lake name is racist and this whole thread should be erased.

I agree. We should name it after a prominent figure in history. Not a big one, maybe just a vice president…

If you’re going to sneak out this weekend, target the wind blown shorelines as shallow as you can get without getting into thick weeds. Rapalas, spoons and even a jig and plastic worked very well today. Trolling, casting, jigging. Anywhere from 5-12’.

Some shorelines are much much much more productive than others. If you’re not catching fish, don’t waste your time there.
