A passenger noted yesterday that the cooling stream was more like a drizzle at cruise but stronger off plane. Since I never look back I have no idea what is normal. Water was very cold. No alarms. Less than 100 hrs on engine. No sand blasting on skeg or prop. Thoughts?? Tx

Your water tube to the tell tale maybe partially froze and or debris in it. As long as you have some water coming out I wouldn’t be to concerned….
Remove cover, remove hose from the hole and blow out inspect for debris. You might also consider flushing the motor.

Use a thin wire to clean the tell-tale nozzle. As Dean states, it was probably ice or debris.

Do you have a water pressure gauge? If not i would suggest getting and installing one. This is a much better way of knowing what condition your cooling system is in.

I would not worry one bit, i have a 250 yamaha and they noted to have a weak stream, that sounds pretty normal operation to me.

X2. Yamaha’s have a weak stream on the main. Kickers will scream the water out.

    The Yamaha’s that I have ran, (60hp, 150hp, and a 200hp) all had a great stream. I haven’t ran a 300hp though.
If it’s different than normal the safe bet is to get it checked out. I’d imagine overheating one of those bad boys could get expensive.
Always better safe than sorry I guess.

My 300 pretty weak also, has been that way since day one. My 250 was weak too, but not as weak as my 300.

I have a 2008 75 Yamaha 4 stroke. It’s stream is weaker weaker than the other motors I’ve owned or seen on the water. Especially at idle is doesn’t pee much water.

Seems to be fairly common. My motor has well over 600 hours on it with no issues.
