WIth the cool down will the bass start moving closer to top weed edges? I found this last weekend that the Ned rig was not working to well deep but no bass close to shore wacky worming so I started throwing cranks over the weed beds did quite well. Not a huge crank fan but hey if it works. As was said in another post do you guys start quit using the ned rig around now? Last year it was dynamite for me but this year not as much I think to many people using them bass get conditioned I love spinnerbaits but hardly see any one use them I think that’s why they work so well. Will the bass start relating to docks some or not as much as in spring thanks just wanting to help hone my skills

I will welcome the cooler temps with open arms. Its been so ungodly hot the past several weeks.

I don’t think you’ll see a big change. Look for cooler water (weeds, docks, deeper water) and you’ll find some fish. Last week I went fishing at night time in an attempt to avoid recreational riff raff and it was extremely effective so I’m going to try that again soon.

Bass definitely get conditioned to specific lures or presentations. The more lures they see, the harder they become to catch. This is why the bass have become more difficult to catch in Tonka and Mille Lacs in my opinion. Endless supply of tournaments and pressure.

I honestly think they are already there. My neko and Trigs stopped working out deep last week and I moved up to 14-18 FOW with the weeds tops around 8-10 feet. Burned a DT-10 crankbait through the tops of the weeds and was getting hit by bass and pike (90% bass) about every other cast. And they were CHOKING it.

Keep in mind this is on a lake that is deep and clear and usually about 5 degrees cooler than most lakes in the area.

    Sorry for the double pic….

It was about this time last year the hot Neko bite dwindled… but I think the weed edge will continue for awhile whether it be plastics, cranks, jigs, chatterbaits.

I also think the thick weeds will hold fish even if the water temps cool a bit. I usually start upsizing my jigs in August thru Sept. Last couple years the Mop Jig and Megadaddy trailers got bit a lot, because I don’t think the fish were as conditioned to their larger profile as they were to the standard size they’ve seen so much of year-to-date.

Good idea to throw some cranks, not something they see so much anymore, if you know the area is good you can figure out pretty quickly if that bite is on, BUT if you rule cranks out mid day try a few casts around sunset might get turned on at that time, sunset to dark(when people are going in) throw surface stuff, just stay off ‘my’ lakes!

The evening bite up here is getting better all the time. Topwater, plastics and DT-10’s have been effective. A bonus walleye or two are in the mix usually.
