Hey IDO guys thinking on converting an old camper to a fish house. I tried the search function on IDO but could not find much. I have a couple of questions.

    1) how much spray foam insulation should we put on the underside of the floor?
    2) What type of flooring material, vinyl, carpet, rubber?
    Where to purchase?
    3) Where is the best place to find reasonably priced LED lights for the inside?
    4) Where is the best place to find reasonably priced Catch Cover hole covers and sleeves?

Any other suggestions would be welcome!

Unclaimed freight in Milaca is a great place for many items including the hole covers. Inventory varies but worth checking on.

I did this in high school with my dad. We insulated the floor with the same insulation used in exterior walls for houses. I haven’t fished in the house for probably 20 years but I remember the floor being thick and a long way from the hole making it difficult to fish but it worked ok for panfish. We used outdoor carpet, that worked great. The interior walls were made out of dry erase board. Bring a few markers for when the fish aren’t biting and kids will be busy for hours!

Milaca unclaimed freight has majority of the odds and ends for houses and reasonably priced.

For my skid house we did 1″ of spray foam under the floor, inside walls, and ceiling and this is the 3rd season and I would say 1″ is enough but we do bank the house in to prevent air flow under it. Be prepared for sticker shock if your going to have it done by someone.

Your going to be up off the ice a bit but my skid house when blocked up is about 16″ from floor to ice and has not been an issue. Yes it would be nice to be closer but its just fine.

The Catch Cover hole covers are better built that Fish Hole Buddy.
A fan will sure help with freeze up of holes, but may not eliminate it in all conditions.
Fishhousesupply.com is a good place to buy from also, nice fella.

Used PVC pipe to line the holes of my old trailer/fish house. Would pull the tire off and lower the axle down on blocks. Not as nice as todays wheel houses but worked. Battery operated lights over each hole. Todays newer smaller fans over each hole would be nice to keep them from freezing. Not as load as the older ones either I dont think. Car Stereo, single propane burner for cooking, big windows so you dont feel like you are sitting in a box on the lake.
