…now learn how to drive while pulling it! No, your undersized truck pulling a twin axle toy hauler won’t accelerate from 0-60 in under 5 seconds so quit pulling out in front of vehicles going 60 on a highway. And I know darn well your truck will go over 45 mph cause once we hit Onamia (4 lane hwy) you have no trouble hitting 60 mph…so why not drive that speed around the lake? Me and My 5.7 space shuttle towing tundra are getting frustrated.

(yes-I’m mostly joking with a small side of truth)

But I would say, it’s awesome to see so many people out enjoying our lakes. It’s amazing to see 2-3 wheel houses per vehicle when driving around mille laces…maybe higher! I’m seeing a lot of kids out here as well…Keep it up everyone! (now…just learn how to drive). devil

I just finished a 4400 mile trip. I drove down to North of Dallas, across to Kingman Arizona, North to Butte Montana and back across to the Tundra. I can say this….not knowing how to drive isn’t limited to guys pulling wheelhouses. People in general have very little idea how to tow anything. Being underpowered with the truck is part of it but being underpowered between their ears is another part. All I can offer is remember to be a defensive driver each and every time you hit the road.

To be fair, there are plenty of drivers out there that will go 45 in a 55 until they get to a place like Onamia where you can pass and they speed up even without a wheelhouse! LOL
I have been getting stuck behind wheelhouses for years coming back from LOTW and red. I got a wheelhouse this year and I am now part of the problem!
But in all seriousness, I was coming home from Mille Lacs yesterday and I was doing 65 in a 60 and still had people tailgating me. Not sayin you are this way but its never fast enough for some people so I just go with what I am comfortable with.
I have gotten the whole family out in it a couple times with a couple more planned for this winter still and my kids (5,3) absolutely love it and that’s what its all about for me.

That stretch of hwy 169 between Onamia and Garrison is always like that. Summer or winter. In the summer its boats and RVs. The areas of that road directly adjacent to the lake are especially problematic because its such a distraction to look at the water instead of the road. Wigwam and St Albans Bay are also dangerous for lake front owners and resorts because their homes and businesses are separated from the lake by a busy highway.

Just turn your mirrors so you can’t see what is behind you, no need to worry about things you can’t control.

I am in the slow driver camp, especially if its my first time or two through a rural area. Even more so if I am towing. My apologies if its my rig you’re being held up behind.

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,, I expect it IS quite hard to accelerate when a vehicle is towing 2-3 wheel houses. Most folks only tow one wheel house per vehicle.

Ugh I hate those drivers. 61 along the north shore is bad for it, too. Folks driving 5 under in the no passing areas, then kick it up to 70mph as soon as it’s a passing zone. Frustrating.

Or when the car is going 50 mph around the lake, then when you hit the 4 lanes by the casino…in a 45, they now decide to 60 mph…that’s is until it becomes a two line hwy again.

Long time listener, first time wheel house owner. toast

With my rig, I’m probably limited to 55mph. So I apologize in advance for whoever gets stuck behind me. I will make this promise, I won’t be that guy sho speeds up for 4 lane and then back down at 2. That stretch up north on 61 has always driven me nuts for that.

Thats how it works when guys tow behind these half ton trucks being told they can tow 10,000 lbs trailer and realizing there 5 thousand pound castle is a pain. Rig the truck the correct way. Add helpers and bags. Make sure it sits level, put the proper rated tire on it. All these things help.

Agreed Bear I added air bags to the rear of my Yukon and probably will with my newly added Ram. Huge difference I also have E rated tires, also helps. But if you are not confident then maybe try to go at times when less people are on the road. So the rest of us can the f to the lake! mrgreen

I have Firestone bags on my f-250 and a B&w adjustable hitch, both are awesome and worth the money. I can’t believe how many shacks I see towed with the tounge almost hanging on the ground.
