I don’t know what emotion I should have. The Chauvin trial starts and the amount of coverage this is getting is crazy. Even the TV station from Duluth has a guy down there. All the national outlets are covering it.

I wonder if it’s the trial that they are covering or the aftermath they want to be here for? I have to think if this was happening in Kansas City or Omaha it barely would be a story.

They are predicting the trial to take a month, I have to wonder if the protests, riots, looting start before then. My heart goes out to the homeowners and business owners this is going to effect.

I actually live in Omaha and I literally just saw a man kneel on another man’s neck until he quit breathing and died on the way to work this morning. Saw it 3 times this weekend and didn’t even bother to report it; after all, it does happen here all the time and is not even newsworthy.

Sounds like a nice place to live crazy

I’m with Matt, too close to home for this guy. Won’t reiterate the crap last year we went thru, I’ve mostly jumped out of these talks on all outlets bc it’s stress I don’t need rn.

There are good people doing good things in Mpls, it gives hope for the future no matter what happens, at least for me.

This was in my porch, with 2 bags of children masks.

Dutchboy said something absurd, “if this was happening in Kansas City or Omaha it barely would be a story.” (Preposterous statement nominee!)

Bassh8er followed it up with an even more absurd statement to highlight the absurdity of the original statement.

I could get fancy here (reductio ad absurdum), but this is basically the Rush Limbaugh treatment.

So much for a fair trial. Seems to me all you need to testify is a tear in your eye and a opinion. How is the defense letting this testimonies happen. MPLS police department doing a good job of throwing their fellow officer under the bus to.

Sounds like the defense is going to rely on the pitch that he did not die from the knee on the back of the neck so these testimonies do not matter.

To me it sounds that if convicted this is at least the 3rd reason for a appeal.

    After 109 posts, I’m a believer.

Not only do I have faith in the justice system, I have faith in the members of Ido.

I’ve been watching much of it live. With out going in to detail, I’m going to give the defense a chance to fail.

Dad’s birthday today. He would of been 101. His post would be deleted. Sigh.

Personally I’ve found the whole process process pretty interesting. WAY different than Law and Order for sure. The way the prosecution is laying out its case seems to portray GF in a sympathetic manner and playing on the jury’s feelings, then add in that cops thought what DC did was wrong, and then come in with the experts in use of force and medicine. They are admitting he was a drug user to try to take that ammo away from the defense. I think it will get really interesting once the defense starts calling witnesses. There’s a long way to go so what may look bad for one side today may change 180 degrees the next.

I’m in agreement with people that no matter the outcome there’s going to be issues. No one is going to be upset if DC is found guilty on all charges but I don’t think that is going to happen. I think there’s a segment of people that if they don’t get frontier justice they will be upset. I’m just hoping for the best.

i have a question??? maybe the defense might bring it up but besides every other piece of evidence, why hasnt the issue of Floyd passing that counterfiet bill being brought up??

i mean thats how this all got started? maybe it not relavant, the guy died afterall….but……

This is a MURDER trial. The fake $20 is irrelevant

Not an attorney, went to law school. With that caveat, Floyd’s passing a counterfeit $20 is not relevant to the current case. If he committed a violent crime, was apprehended and resisted violently there may have been an opportunity to get that admitted. That was not the case.

IMO the evidence most damaging to Chauvin is the testimony on use of force and its limits. Once Floyd was restrained, i.e., on the ground and handcuffed, there was no further need for Chauvin to pin him to the ground.

I agree with Blackbay, Chauvin likely doesn’t get convicted on all counts. It seems likely that he will be convicted on counts that require reckless indifference as the key attribute.

You see, that’s where it goes off track.

If you break the law there are consequences. The consequence here is he rolled the dice as a pathological criminal and lost.

The fact that he brought the attention of the police by that act has always baffled me, still no reason for him to for that way.

It’s the prosecutions turn for witnesses and his criminal past doesn’t help them. I’m sure the defense will bring that up but the alleged crime doesn’t really matter as a cause of death.
