can you hunt any lake in Minnesota? given you are at least partially concealed by natural vegetation. ive had people tell me that the 500 ft. rule only applies to livestock, but ive had other people tell me that it applies to buildings as well. im a little confused because the regulations doesn’t say anything about it.

I would think any public water is fair game as long as your not inside the city limits of a municipality and at least 500′ (if that is the correct amount) from any occupied buildings but I have not been water fowling in MN for quite a few years. Give your local CO a call and they should be able to clear this up for you. Have a safe hunt!

PS: Also this of course would not apply to any game refuges are where hunting is prohibited.

I think population on the lake is key as well. I will check and let you know it may take a day or two.

Okay Goosehunter I contacted three CO officers about this topic hear is the same answer they all gave.

As far as the DNR is concerned, you can hunt on any lake in the State as long as you are partially concealed in Natural Vegetation. Waterfowl hunting does not have any restrictions as far as how many feet you would need to be from a house. If there were restrictions, no one could hunt waterfowl on any body of water in Minnesota because there are always houses too close to the water!
If the lake is within a City Limit, you may need to check with that City to see if they have ordinances against hunting waterfowl. You can usually find their ordinances on their website(s).

    So be safe out there!
