What’s some local concert venues you have all enjoyed? Travel up to 6hrs outside of twin cities area just fine, Iowa grandstand was awesome.

Haven’t been to concert for 30 years and this summer took in couple and can’t get enough. Schedule is opening to check more out.

The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake Iowa. Amzaing, intimate venue with history and some damn good world renowned artists book there.

Just went to knotfest in Iowa. Was in a huge cornfield. That was sweet. Was at the armory last week for lamb of god and megadeath, that place was nice as well. I’ve seen so many shows its hard to say. Smaller venues are always better.
My favorite all time was triple rock.

Came here to say the same thing. We actually look for our favorite artists to play there if they’re not coming to the TC.

Depending on your music taste, the Dakota is great for jazz, R&B, etc. When they are scheduling, the Minnesota Zoo is a great outdoor venue. Sue McLean & Associates schedule the Zoo, have moved to Canterbury for the summer of 2021. The downtown theaters – Pantages, Orpheum and the State – are great venues. The Turf Club in St. Paul is a fun venue with a variety of acts playing there.

The festivals at the Henry Maier Festival Park in Milwaukee are fantastic. Summerfest gets the most press but there is a different festival most summer weekends. Multiple stages, multiple music genres, food and drink, right on Lake Michigan.

I like the Armory. Got into the $10 jack/cokes like they were going to run out during the BMTH concert.

I just flew 3.5 hours to see a couple different shows at the Hollywood Bowl last weekend. Very historic, and nice place to see an outdoor show. Sound was outstanding for an outdoor venue. My next concert trip will be to Red Rocks.

Been to a couple outdoor shows at Treasure Island. Thought that did a great job running the beer and food tents. Plenty of porta-pottys. After the show they turn both lanes of the road into one way street headed out. Gets everyone out of there in a hurry!

    More thoughts –
    Likes
Cedar Cultural Center – funky, gets artists you won’t see anywhere else in town
    The Ordway – great sound
Orchestra Hall – best sound in town

    Dislikes
    Palace Theater – muddy sound
Treasure Island – access is a nightmare
Mystic Lake – don’t like the layout
Target Field, US Bank Stadium, Huntington Bank Stadium, Target Center, Xcel Energy Center – don’t like the big venue vibe and the sound usually is poor

If you needed booze the lines were huge. But I always have my own so we just jammed and didn’t need anything. I also parked my truck where I could hop through a ditch, took us 10 minutes and we were on the interstate. Metal fests are usually a mess, but always a great time

My wife loves Chris Stapleton. I just looked up some tickets to see him at US Bank. At $250 a seat you would still need to bring binoculars.

Saw Chris Stapleton when he was a nobody at a charity event in a hotel ballroom and it was such a cool experience. Then we saw him several years later when he had “made it” in a much larger venue (Alliant in Madison so not US Bank size) and was less impressed. Somewhat disappointed in the quality of his performance – he just doesn’t seem to be a big venue type performer. I would sure as heck think hard about dropping $500 on a concert when the performer is just going to get up and sing his songs. I go to the concert for the experience and interaction with the crowd. Your mileage may vary though.

    Nobody mentioning First Ave?

I’m with Bearcat….Triple Rock is great. I like the smaller, bar style joints that are just packed wall to wall. Nothing wrong with the bigger venues but they lack the energy.

If you ever get a chance, Red Rocks Amphitheatre outside of Colorado Springs should be on your list.

I actually like Xcel Energy and Target for a concert venues. US Bank Stadium is by far the worst venue for a concert I have ever been to. Garth Brooks was amazing at Target Center but awful at US Bank.

Yeah at $250 a seat for nosebleeders it was easy to pass on. Stapleton’s vocals and songs are pretty solid. I have seen two concerts at U.S. Bank and would rank it for sure behind most venues. Cool place, but not built for concerts.

Was supposed to go see Deftones at the armory but it kept getting moved back until finally it landed on a date that wouldn’t work for me.

Had heard it’s a nice venue with good acoustics.

The Cabooze is a nice small venue where some fairly large acts as well as great locals can have an awesome concert.

Mayo Civic Center is pretty awesome for a medium size venue if the right bands are there.

Mankato Civic Center is pretty good that gets fairly big acts as well. Just don’t get seats on the sides of the stage. All you hear are the subwoofers.

My inlaws recently went to the Eagles concert at Xcel, apparently they get up on stage, play the album Hotel California from front to back and don’t say a word until the end. Sorry, if I wanted that, I’d listen to the album at home, with better sound.

I don’t know what it’s like now, but it used to be really good. Back in the day, I saw Oasis and Blur in separate concerts there. They were playing stadiums in the UK, but they hadn’t had any US radio hits so they were still in small venues.

We were upstairs in the bar during intermission of Blur and there were few fans over 21 so the bar was pretty empty. And in walk the whole band. We talked to them for a while, they were pretty funny.

    Great concerts back then.

No love for the new venue in Waite Park? The Ledge amphitheater is awesome. Huge outdoor venue at a granite quarry that just opened this year. Took my son to Rancid and the Dropkick Murphys and the wife to 311. Hour drive from my house in Richfield but a great outdoor spot!!

Good info. Couple shows down at the mayo and was curious about that one.
