COMPETITOR 205 TILLER Update on issues

Finally, got to bring the boat back to the dealer yesterday. I guess I can’t complain they did agree with me but looking at a 185 & a 205 Shadow, there was varying gaps in the keels as well. Mine seemed to be about the same or a little larger. So they are going to measure the gap and have Alumacraft confirm if they are with in spec or not.

As far as the kinks on the joint between the hull & side walls, the other boats seemed to have similar kinks as well. I think Alumacraft could do this better, but we are pretty confident this is just how they are put together.

    – Console is being replaced.

    – Damaged bow carpet is getting, torn up and replaced. I think this is stupid but this is how Alumacraft wants it done, why not
just ship finished panels, then is just a pull & replace.

    – Missing carpet in the storage bin is being replaced.

    – Trailer is going back to ShoreLandr for a replaced or repaired fender & tongue where the road armor is warn through and
    rusting.

We’ll see how it looks when they are done. They didn’t give a date but got ASAP. So we’ll see.

Well another update! 2 weeks after dropping the boat off, service department still could not give me a date for the repairs. We finally decided we have had enough and that we would not be happy with these repairs.

So we called the Sales Manager, he really stepped up and found us new 205 tiller! I will post a review either way in another thread when this situation is resolved.

I really hope they come through for us! I don’t want to start boat shopping, so close to the season!

Well, 3 weeks after dealer said they found me a new hull they have it at the shop. I went to look at it yesterday, difference is NIGHT AND DAY!

The seams & rivets are way more evenly compressed and look much tighter! Hull has no dents at the seams or on the bottom of the hull at all from what I can tell.

Wire rigging is much cleaner to the console, and all the wire channels have the appropriate hole grommets.

Over all this new boat doesn’t look like it was repaired or 1/2 finished!

This new boat came on an eagle trailer with a ladder, but they are switching this new boat to my original Shoreland’r trailer. I know the eagle trailer is supposed to be an upgrade but I didn’t really like it anyways. I didn’t push back I figure I paid for the Shoreland’r.

Anyways, I sure hope I never have issues with this boat because Alumacraft certainly doesn’t seem to care about supporting their customers or dealers!

Very glad this was resolved to your satisfaction. Hope the new boat is everything you hoped and that you have no more need to deal with Alumacraft.

You’ve done everyone a service by posting your experience here and so others can find it with a search. Also, you’ve done everyone a service by NOT settling fog crappy quality! To be honest, the only reason some walleye boat makers get away with the crap that’s on the market these days is because the buyers let them.

    Thanks Grouse,

If I’m being open minded, the layout of the comp 205 tiller is ridiculously good! Tons of rod storage, tons of gear storage, they even put in a dry storage area (should have made it all dry storage but I”m sure that will come if they are serious about this hull!) Also, looks like it will be easy to rig with large wire paths.

Floors are screwed down not riveted like my Alaskan was, nothing wrong with that but if you need to fix or install something it it much more difficult!

It really is a shame we had this experience, because if this boat rides as good as I think it’s going to “being an aluminum hull” it’s going to be a great boat for the next 10+ years!

Finally got it home. Prepping to rig everything today. I am impressed with the quality of this one.

Where there was just wood in my lund, this one has aluminum plating. For instance in my alaskan in the bow is all wood where the tm is mounted. On this boat it has an aluminum backing plate.

The front face of the bow storage aluminum.

    Hopefully, it lasts!

I also contacted Alumacraft about their QC. About the complaints and pictures of shoddy workmanship. The manager of qc contacted me saying they just hired him. That a woman who was dealing with issues was out on personnel leave and they were backlogged . Then went on to say i needed to contact them with my problem boat ? That was stupefying because not once did i reference i had a 205 Comp ! I sent an email back to set the record straight. As of late not heard a word from them. Don,t know if one hand knows what the other is doing syndrome is going on at Alumacraft . I do say they can build a good boat. They just need to do it consistently. If that’s not possible then at least support the customer and dealers

I don’t know if it’s because I’m in Canada and we are a much smaller customer base, or they just don’t care! I have yet to be contacted by anyone from Alumacraft since Feb!

While my dealer played the martyr about getting me a replacement hull and giving me the whole spiel about cutting a check out of their own pocket to buy the boat from another dealer to replace mine, and that know other dealer would do this. I said to that, you either bought this boat at a discount and sold it at full pop or Alumacraft sent it to you like this and your service department didn’t inspect the boat at all! Of course this was said after I picked the new boat up ;)

Alumacraft had the nerve to send me a survey request and after giving them a full review of my experience all I got was a thank you for being a customer and $100 credit towards some crap hats and tee-shirts.. Disgusting!

I will never suggest anybody buy an Alumacraft.

    Absolutely brilliant finish by Alumacraft.

I mean could they not at least have sent you one of thier t-shirts that says “I Love My Alumecraft”?
