Hi everyone, love this forum. Just like the title says it would like to hear your input on how similar or differences between thorne bros walleye sweetheart and tucr power precision. I’m looking for a rod for w5-w7 raps. Thanks

    Hey Kevin
I’m not much of an ice angler but I do know the guy that makes custom ice rods called jt outdoor products. Go check them out. A few of my buddies run his rods along with some great anglers on tv. One model my buddy loves is the walleye snare. Go check them out and good luck on the ice.

I haven’t used the power precision but the walleye sweetheart might be a little too soft for those baits, especially the 7’s. They do make a medium heavy action that would work better, believe you can get it up to 34″ long. As far as the power precision the one concern I’ve always had with it is they only make them up to 32″ because of the blank they use. Because of that I waited for them to come out with the Commander and picked up 2 of them for up on Lake Winnipeg. They fish the #7 rippin raps perfectly and if I was recommending a rod for what you are looking for the Commander would be it.

Yes I have a Power Precision and have looked at the comparible Thorne rod. I am personally not sold on Thorne Rods. Am I saying they’re bad?? NO not at all, they’re still a good rod, I just like the TUCR better.

Now to handle the 5 and 7 Rippin Raps and stuff, I would honestly look more into the Commander line from TUCR as well. I have two 38″ models and they’re perfect for those lures up into the #7 where the PP will fall a bit short. Could you get buy with the PP if you had one, probably, but if you’re buying a new one I would go with the Commander.

    Kevin,

The commander will be better for that lure range. The power is more of a #5 rippin rap rod. Or a larger spoon rod. The commander does better for what you are looking for.

Tough comparison, partly a chevy/ford debate and partly not. The blanks are slightly different actions and therefore will handle those baits differently. My bias is towards thorne bros, I have a walleye sweetheart medium action and have had no problems fishing a number 5-7 ripping rap or a 5-7 jigging rap with them. I love this rod because it fishes a 1/4oz spoon very well and it has the sensitivity to fish a 1/8oz if needed. IMO the best overall walleye rod I’ve used. It has its niche in that 1/4-3/8oz range but does handle bigger baits well too.
