Out on the Columbia, the water is in liquid form and flowing slowly west. That means prime time prespawn fish time! My fishing partner and I were out for 3 days. Only caught 7 walleyes, 2 sculpin, and 2 suckers. Attached is my parnter’s personal best which was one of the 7 ‘eyes caught. He nailed another 2 fish in the 8 lb range…

Dan,real nice eye, way to make a guy jealous!! I’m really interested in knowing what presentation brought this eye to the boat as well. Water depth, time of day, lure color, ect…..ect.

Thats a great fish. I want to start fishing the river ASAP. Any advice as to where a Columbia river newbie should start? I’ll be coming from Tacoma, probably through Portland and then heading east.

I would start at Rufus. Maybe hook up with Fly by night guide service for a day of orientation/ river spots… Touche` is a good guide and will show you some ropes and where to start out. It would be worth the $$

Ill be in Redmond the first of July. Hows the bite that time of year, and where is the best spot and guide to go with for really big Walleyes. I dont really want to drag my boat 1500 miles.

There are two areas within striking distance of Redmond. Rufus, Or is the closest, hook up with fly by night guide service out of Rufus. Touché’ is well known and respected.

Fly By Night Guide Service 541-739-2770 208 Main S T Rufus OR 97050

The other area is at least one hour farther upstream, the Boardman, Irrigon, Umatilla Oregon area. Call High Desert Marine in Hermiston, talk with Rod. He knows the guides in the area.

That is not great big fish time on the river, although I have done well over the years in late July. It is really hot and the wind can blow you off the river. Good Luck,

Alright! It’s great to see another poster from your neck of the woods Dan(Or)! Sweet! I’ve already got 2003 pretty well locked up but I think I’m going to have to start thinking about making my first 2004 trip out there to the Columbia! Get some fellow EFNers visiting from the east! Big catches to ya!
