Despite all the talk and claims about bright – fancy colors on over cast days or when fishing dark muddy waters and vice versa on clear days and clear water here’s the only color scheme that’s worked for me over the last 15 years.
Match the hatch. In the lakes filled with Alewives which are shiny silver, sparkly or iridescence silver blows away any other color time after time. On the lakes where they feed primarily on perch, perch colored baits make all the difference in the world. Even changing to firetiger which slightly resembles perch will greatly cut down on your chance of getting a fish.
    I guess I should mention I usually use twitch-jerkbait and pull-pause techniques.

I wonder if the rest of you have had similar or different experiences?

All good colors, dont forget black. Bummblebee and all orange in stained water. I truly think if a musky is ready to eat, it doesnt matter much.

Agreed. I find Red to be a good color mixed with other colors. White spinner bait with a Red bottom or hair skirt often performs well for me. When I use black it’s generally with a jointed Rapala.

Some days, matching the hatch so to speak is dead on.

Other days, the hot lure has absolute no resemblance to anything that’s ever swam in the lake.

    Go figure crazy

FYI – I’m on the Pike side of the tracks in this forum.
