Goalies and goalie selection tend to scare many head coaches no matter what the level of play.

In HS my brother’s junior year he split time with another goalie the whole year. They were undefeated and made it to state. My brother was the much better goalie, but they still won all their games. When they got to state it was my brother’s turn to start game 1 as they rotated all year. They played Red Wing. A team they had beaten twice during the regular season and my brother played both of those games. What did the coach do? Played the other goalie. They lost 1-0 and outshot Red Wing like 50 something to 12. The coach felt you cannot beat the same team 3 times in a season. Granted they didnt score, but my brother would have given them a better chance. They were the better team.

Did you see when Cooley got his gamer… that was baaaad!

Wait, was that when he through his stick into the stands? Yeah that was dumb, turned the tide of that game.

I think that was Pitlick with the stick toss. Cooley’s was a dangerous dirty hit on a backcheck against Michigan, I can’t find a video.

Saturday’s final will feature the top two overall seeds. Its only the fourth time in NCAA Men’s D1 Tournament history where the top 2 seeds have advanced to play each other in the final. The previous three are:

    1983 – (W1) Wisconsin beat (E1) Harvard 6-2
    1993 – (E1) Maine beat (W1) LSSU 5-4
    2017 – (1) Denver beat (2) UMD 3-2

At this point the only difference in the game is that massive blunder by the Bobcat’s defenseman in the first period. Which could prove to be a very costly mistake.

Man that was a gutsy move by Pecknold to pull the goalie with a power play. Paid off

Any body else notice the amount of screen time Nikki Pecknold has been getting?

I had a bad feeling that whole 3rd period, the gophers were on their heels the entire time. Need to come up big here in OT.

I would say that was a bs call at the end of the 3rd, should have been coincidentals, not a power play. But hect of a game!

Clearly the strategy was to just box in around the goalie the entire third period and try to win the game 2-1. Back fire.

Well that escalated quickly… great set play worked to perfection in OT

Gophers came out flying, were throttled down in the second and on their heels in the 3rd and barely got a 10 count before KO’d in OT. Props to Quinnipiac and their coach, they adjusted well and executed a far better plan.

3rd period for the gophs was basically the text book definition of “playing not to lose”.

If I was a gopher fan I would be very upset with the coaching staff in the 3rd.

I’ve watched that OT replay 10 times, no idea what #4 Koster was thinking on that play being overly aggressive so early??

How does Motzko not have the more experienced Faber out there to start?

yea seems to be a Minnesota thing …….get the lead only to play not to lose……..then lose!!!!!! whistling

it was interesting when Quinnipac got control of the puck in there end to watch them go on a 3 man rush all the way down the ice……..they did that alot.

i do have to admit, that game winning goal was pretty sweet………even for the bad guys!!!!!! doah
