The NCAA, in their infinite wisdom, put a Michigan/UND regional in a 2500 seat arena in Maryland Heights, Missouri. I haven’t seen an atmosphere like it since 10 am Saturday Mites B in house championship at Braemar.

So dumb. There’s neutral site high school arenas in mn that could hold more.

How do you like your Hawks cooked?

To be fair though those Fighting Hawks fans were busy covering hay bails for the snowstorm.

    LOL

Some entertaining games yesterday, that’s for sure. Lots of parity in CH right now.

The venue in Missouri is small. The problem is the lack of teams putting in to be a host institution. It takes a significant financial investment up front and it has to be a neutral site. North Dakota puts in every year to be a host in Fargo at Scheels arena because it’s an hour from their fan base and the Hawks make the tourney almost every season, so it generally pays off.

Pretty silly that they don’t just use home sites for the regionals. I think from what I’ve heard the ‘lesser’ programs in the country vote against it since they’d rarely host. Women’s basketball does it because they know they would be playing in 70% empty arenas.

Even in the UND game last night it looked like there were quite a few empty seats. Suppose they may have been fans from the previous game that left?

Yes. Regional first round games are “session” tickets which gets you a seat to both games. Kind of like the state hockey tournament first and second round games. Some fans only attend the game for their team even though they can attend both with the same ticket.

Macklin Celebrin was ridiculous, he made the blue chippers at the U look like they were playing at the wrong level.

Isnt he only 17 too? At least I think he was at the beginning of the season which makes what he has been doing even more impressive.

He is one of the few canadians that play college hockey. Good get for BU too especially with how good he is. Most would stay in Canada and play junior.

Celebrini is 17 years old. I thought Goldy hung in there pretty well and Brodzinski had a great chance to tie it in the third period on a one timer, and whiffed.

Minnesota was the superior team last season and beat BU. Kind of the opposite this year.

BU will face Denver in the frozen four.

A lot more than you would think play college. 30% of the NCAA is made up of canucks.

Do you know how many play college when they’re 18 vs say 21+ after a few years in Canadian juniors? Curious how that calculates out.

Adam Fantilli, Owen Powers, Kent Johnson, to name a few top five picks from Canada to play college hockey the last few years.

Quinnipiac almost knocked off top ranked Boston College. The Bobcats were up 2-0, 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3 but still lost 5-4 in OT.

I have a feeling the two Boston teams might be meeting in the NCAA final in St Paul…

MN Wild fans players to watch:

Denver – Rieger Lorenz – Wild 2nd round pick, power forward they will likely sign after next season
BC – Gabe Perrault – Player we passed on to instead take Charlie Stramel )

Celebrini takes the Hobey Baker… insane! Kid is 17 years old. A normal kid his age would be a junior in high school and 2 years removed from Bantams. Here he is the best player in college hockey, dominating a bunch of low 20 year olds. I don’t even feel weird saying kid, because he’s still legally a child

Big game in a few hours. BC the heavy favorite in my opinion

Chicago better not get Celebrini. Just the thought of it makes me vomit.

Denver is a pretty good offensive team but I don’t think they have the horses to keep up with the Eagles. The lower scoring game favors them. A track meet favors BC.

That save by Davis in the second period was ridiculous. Taking down both Boston teams, that’s impressive.
