Yep, every couple years they try and sneak in a price hike then I just threaten to switch and I get the cheap rate again. I have been with them for nearly 20 years. Get free upgrades on equipment every few years too.

I dont have or even have access to fiber or cable internet. I cannot have all the tvs streaming all their content while a home filled with gamers and I need to work on a VPN. -)
Interesting that firestick has FSN. I never hear that mentioned as an option for those that had youtubetv, etc that all lost FSN.

I am hooked into Directv also. We cannot get good enough signal at our camper to stream much at all. Plus I have become pretty mobile with it. Nothing like watching the hockey game while fishing!

Is it authenticating through some other provider? I looked on the channel listing on the firestick site and they said that those type of channels (local sports) would authenticate through a different provider. Example, I can use FoxSports Go on my phone to view FoxSports North BUT, it requires authentication through in my case DirecTV to ensure I am authorized to use it.
If you dont have to do that you are lucky and more people should be switching to it!

I think you can add a Sports Pack to it. I did this on a monthly basis one time for about 10 bucks just to see what other regional sports would come through. All the pro sports were blocked but I got a lot of college sports. I dropped it after 2 months though.

Interesting. If you can get FSN in that pack for $10 that would solve a lot of people’s whining!

Looks like all 5 Minnesota teams qualified, which is a first.

St Lawrence received an autobid by winning their conference tournament but they had to bail because of positive covid 19 tests, so Notre Dame took their spot.

I hope that the tournament can be played in its entirety. It would be devastating if we got to the frozen four and someone had to forfeit.

For those interested, the “local” teams time/TV are:

Friday 3/25 at 8:30pm on espn3 (streaming) – North Dakota vs American International

Saturday 3/26 at 4pm on espn3 (streaming) – Mankato vs Quinnipiac
Saturday 3/26 at 5:30pm on espn news – St Cloud vs BU
Saturday 3/26 at 9pm on espnU – Minnesota vs Omaha

Is this the best MN hockey has ever been? On top of all 5 MN D1 programs making the tournament, 3 other teams have a huge MN presence as well. Michigan has 3 MN guys, UND and WI both have 7 MN players and Notre Dame and Nebraska Omaha both have 9!

If it is not the best showing from MN, it is really really close I would bet.

I was looking the other day and noticed that 8 of 12 teams that were part of the WCHA in 2012-13 (the last year) are in the tournament this year. This shows how crazy that conference was. On the other hand, if the WCHA still contained all the same teams as the past, we would not get see this in the tournament. Half of the tournament field this year is made up of past WCHA teams…

There’s a lot of traditional powers in the tournament too. The last tournament in 2019 (2020 was cancelled), many of the blue bloods did not even qualify. North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, BU, and BC all missed out. They are all in it this year and 4 of those are number 1 seeds. Additionally, there has been an “upset” of a number 4 seed beating a number 1 seed every year since 2012. Even though they rank the teams 1-16, there is pretty good competitive balance now.

Notre Dame has withdrawn from the tournament because of covid-19 positives so they will forfeit their game against Boston College on Saturday.

Well my bracket is busted I had Notre Dame winning it all
OK, I didnt. Its unfortunate for those kids and too bad a team cannot take their place.

Yeah, they didnt deserve to be there in the first place by all accounts. It sounds like it was more of a reward for being a host. That is pretty pretty bad.

Does anyone know if YoutubeTV includes ESPN+? Sioux game is on ESPN3. I’ll be going to a friend’s house Friday who has YoutubeTV, but my searches do not tell me whether or not it includes ESPN+ or not. I have heard that it does. If not, will I just need to get subscription to ESPN+?

I don’t think you need espn+ to watch it. All you need is an online connection. Go to espn3/watchespn and you can stream it.

Kind of a joke that they can’t even televise the top ranked team in the country. The mankato/quinnipiac game on Saturday is the same. Get your act together ESPN

Follow the money. When averaging all NCAA Division 1 football teams against all Division 1 hockey teams, football brings in more than 20x the revenue per team (with far more teams too). The same statistic for men’s basketball comes in at about 7-8x the revenue (with far more teams than hockey too).

College hockey is a regional sport and has a fraction of the following as other sports whether Midwestern people want to admit it or not. The sport is caught in a tough spot as anything in the Fall will lose to Football, while the NCAA basketball tournament will crush anything late winter. Sadly, ESPN likely makes more money honoring bigger contracts showing highlights or press confefences of football/basketball as it does NCAA hockey playoffs. The money always wins and always will.
