Well Ibrahim is done for the season and may have played his last as a Gopher before turning pro. Hopefully their young RB’s can pick up the slack as a group.

They do have quite a group of RBs and each one offers something different. Trey Potts, Cam Wiley, Bryce Williams, Ky Thomas and Mar’Keise “Bucky” Irving. Potts will likely get the majority of the load, I bet they use him with some screens and even receiver at times. Thomas is described as being the closest to Ibrahim’s style. He’s a redshirt Freshman so he isnt exactly new to the team, but also inexperienced. Irving is supposed to be a stud but is a true Freshman. They will all get reps so it will be fun to see these guys in game action. One thing is for sure this O Line is tremendous. OSU has perhaps the best D Line in the country and Faalele was just punishing their left end all night. It should get much easier for them from here. Iowa and Wisconsin will be tough I am sure, but shouldnt be as tough as OSU.

Tough loss for UW. It’s hard to believe that they gave up 40 total yards of offense in the first half yet still did not have a lead. As always, the Badgers defense should be a top 10 unit, but their offense is average at best.

All around college football there were a lot of “ugly” games, specifically offensively. Clemson, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Penn State, Georgia, Indiana all looked like ranked teams that will struggle to put up points against any solid competition. Iowa scored quite a few points as a result of their defense. I’m not convinced their offense will put up enough points for them to be more than mediocre either.

Huh, I once heard, from this obscure coach, Bear Bryant, that defense wins championships. Or, makes you mediocre.

You think he’ll be drafted?? Has there ever been a running back that came back from an Achilles?

Have they confirmed it’s an Achilles?

I dont think it was officially declared what the injury is, but the video looked pretty obvious to me that is indeed what happened. People say you cannot walk with a torn Achilles which he was in a boot and you indeed can walk. One former football player said after the initial “pop” that it doesnt even really hurt which surprises me.

Watched a game last night…Lousiville vs. ole Miss. Running back bolted through the 2 hole and the was plastered by strong safety…clean, jarring tackle that was a beautiful football move. Play went on but before the next snap game was stopped by replay official in the booth who promptly ejected the tackler.
I can’t watch college football anymore because of the rules and the length of the games…minimum of 4 hours. The great sport of college football has died.
Best team ever??? Hands down 1995 Nebraska – nobody got w/in 24 points of them and they smashed Spurrier’s “fun and gun” team by about 50 points in the national championship game. I remember thinking the final score could have been even worse had the dogs not been called off. They must have had a good defense.

There were 4 ejections in one half of this game. The one you mentioned (linebacker not strong safety) was a bad call. It’s a tackle near the LOS with a runner who also lowers his pad level the previous play and subsequently his head.

The rule will be changed this off-season you can almost guarantee it. Ejections should be removed from the penalty. I’d wager that less than 25% of targeting instances have intent behind them. You have to tackle someone where they are. Some of these guys run at Olympic speeds and are nothing but shoulder pads and a helmet coming at you. Also, when the 6’3 Quarterback weighing 235# running a 4.7 40 lowers his pads 2 yards from you then skips a knee under at the last second is “protected”, it’s impossible to let up as the next play he will run through you.

    Agreed on the 95 team.

I think the pro and college game is getting killed by all the new rules, replays, etc.

If you go to a game it’s unbelievable the downtime between plays and series. Between commercial breaks, replays, etc is a wonder the teams ever get in rhythm.

    Watching the Gophs…..

Isn’t it amazing that there are basically no offsides or false starts…and you see this pretty consistently in the college game.

Whereas, in the NFL there are at least 4-5 of these penalties every game. Heck, Everson Griffen was good for one offsides a game by himself..

Vikes commit 2 false starts in first 3 plays…my Gawd..

3 false starts now in first 7 plays..

Zimmer has the offense ready to play today!

4 false starts and 2 holding calls through first 20 minutes..

Another great day of games yesterday. The buskers actually put a scare into OU.

Big Ten looked pretty strong beating Miami and auburn yesterday. The auburn v penn state game was really good.

Was surprised The Gophers absolutely dismantled the buffs. They looked really good, too.

Totally sucked that the Gopher game was on the PAC 10 channel. It looks like Potts has filled Ibrahim’s shoes pretty well. My bet is Mo for sure doesn’t come back now. IMO it’s Potts team now.

Can I say the Hawkeyes might have a shot to win the Big 10 this year too.

Iowa looks legit. I think the B10 is pretty wide open this year. Northwestern sure looks awful though.

I’d say even Michigan looks good but they’ll crap the bed at some point.

That was terribly annoying, fortunately I was able to catch the 2nd half after receiving a tip on how to find it.

Potts steps up as the Gophers churn out what might be yet another stud RB. Obviously they as a team can’t seem to ascend past Music City Bowl glory, but their RB track record has got to be on par with some of the better programs. In my high school/adult life they’ve had Barber, Maroney, Pinnix, Russell, David Cobb, Shannon Brooks, Mo, and now hopefully some future guys. None of them (except Barber) amounted to much of anything in the NFL but they were always good for about 150 yards on the ground most games.

I’m sure some would say I’m a homer for this take but I think yesterday was a very low-level statement game, depending on how the rest of the year unfolds. On the road against a major conference team, predicted as the underdog, and they controlled the whole game and only gave up 80-something total yards. Need to keep momentum going after that.

    I think y’all know I’m a staunch HAWKEYE.

But the offence is still a hit and miss. Kent St was a better showing over the previous weeks but still, definitely a work in progress. I hope they still climb upward to where they were thought to be at preseason.

Defence, keep on keeping on! This defence is one of the best we’ve had in over 50 years, imo.

    Go Hawks!
