I have been trying to get out on the river by myself as much as possible once the ice went out… I haven’t done this for a while and it’s been fun following the walleyes moving up and down the river.. Water temps and longer days seem to have an affect on their moods for sure…..
Pulling cranks, dragging jigs and pitching plastics have been my game plan… Some days have been really good and some.. haha not so much…. Not catching fish is as just as good of a learning experience as catching them in a new spot !!!

Last Thursday we had some really crazy weather with sunny skies one moment and then full on blizzard the next !! CRAZY !!!
Water temps went from 48deg down to 42deg… Had to S~L~O~W~T~H~I~N~G~S~D~O~W~N to catch my fish….

With the upcoming weather (snow storm in April) I can see it’s not going to warm things up anytime soon…

    Go With The Flow !!!

I talked with some really cool people out there the past few weeks… Saw one guy I hadn’t seen since we both were on walleyes until the biggest buffalo stampede came thru and hosed up our good bite !! Good to talk again !! Hope to see you out there again !!!

Pulled up to another spot and asked if I could sneak in on a corner and was openly greeted and had a great conversation !!

Love the comradery out there !! I have countless encounters and most all of them keep me smiling !!!

Take care out there… Everyone be safe and healthy please !!!

Well done Dave! I too would have to piece together a few trips for a collage lately. Last Saturday was good for me on pool 4, but other than that, it’s been tough overall. I did chat with a few boats that confirmed they never had as much as a bite. Then some here claim to catch limits every time out roll

Last Friday when I was out… I was pitching jigs and plastics below the dam and I had little to no luck….

I watched a guy pull up to a very specific spot and drop his offering down and within 30-45 min he caught 5 walleyes… three were in the release slot as I gave him a thumbs up as he released them…. This guy was getting ready to pull up and he waved me over to take over for him… well of coarse I slid over !! What happened next was a big ol plate of humble pie !!! NADA hahaha That guy had a technique that I could not replicate….

A great learning experience that I am in the middle of…

HAHA I think we all had days like that! couple 13,14 years ago on the Rainy, I probably out fished 2 buddies in the boat 10 to 1 and you could tell the frustration on their face! I ate it up all day and next morning the “lucky” jig I had tied on was mysteriously missing from my rod and replaced with a goldfish cracker! I have had plenty of slices of humble pie in my days too.

Fast forward to last week, I watched a guy catch 20 plus fish everywhere he went all within 30 yards around me and other boats while I couldn’t get as much as a nibble. After about 3 hours, I got the heck out of there as I could not take it anymore.

I think a ton has to do with how your lure is presented in a particular current seam that fish are using. either that or they just are not there anymore.

Next weeks weather pattern is looking pretty good so better days are in the works…………

I’m going to hope the crappies have settled down a bit tomorrow morning.
