Cold Weather – Anything breaking?

Speaking of garage doors, FW couldn’t get the garage door open this morning. I checked and yep, the cables were hanging on both sides of the door. I feel kind of bad for the guy from Great Garage door that’s working on it now.

The battery operated keypad dead bolt was screaming “New Batteries” at me last night.

    So far, that’s been it.

Anyone else feeling the pain of broken devices in the colder weather?

Just after saying you’ve never had cold weather problems with your diesel work truck in cold weather jester

Next time you have to knock on wood! I bet that was a hefty tow bill

Had an Endoscopy 12/23. Got sick with the flu on 12/24. 1/6 still not moving. Didn’t start the 4runner for 4 days. Battery dead and won’t take a charge. Froze or possibly alternator BO. Or both. Drive up window at Hibbing Walgreens extends around the building.

Daughter’s battery crapped out on Sunday. A 3-year old InterState that was 6 months past the free replacement. I took it to the InterState store where I bought it and was expecting 45% off. He exchange it for free. yay
I did have to replace the battery for my garage door opener keypad. I’ll have to watch it because I always replace it in Sept.-Oct. timeframe. Maybe I put in a partially used one. doah I also had to change the code. We’ve been using the same code for 15+ years so the new code uses all new numbers.

That is just exactly how they want it to happen. What a bummer!

I don’t think anything broke but man my house was poppin’ last night. Woke me up a couple of times with a loud bang, guessing it was the roof trusses in the attic gradually expanding/contracting in the hot/cold buffer zone of the house?

No problems myself yet but I’m thinking I should replace my truck battery. It’s still the original 2013 one and got it started in -32 last weekend but seems like I’m probably pushing it.

That is how our luck has been this new year. Scared to touch the ram with the buick being totaled and the kw down for a week at least if the parts are available.

Wow. That’s 9 years old, more than pushing it. I would replace it now.

I’ve been very happy with Interstates backing of batteries (as long as a person goes back to the dealer where purchased). I had one go out on me after about a year and the dealer (that I didn’t buy it from) was going to give me some discount. I don’t recall how much it was but it didn’t seem like enough. He called Interstate in Mpls and I walked out the door with a new battery at no charge. I was willing to pay something, just not what the standard return policy was.

Garage door spring was replaced by the time I arrived home yesterday. $269.00

So I happen to live close to a garage door supplier that caters to the DIY’er, and even offers “upgrade” spring options. Below is a list of spring choices for the same door, they vary the wire diameter and length to provide a greater number of projected cycles (longer life). I’ll bet most shops just install the least expensive option, and hope to get a call back in 5 years when they fail.

Went to go fishing on Saturday and wanted to hook the quick connect hose from the Big Buddy to an 11 lb propane tank and the plastic ACME nut split in half. With no other heat back up for the portable, back to shore and off in search of someone who could replace the broken ACME nut. At least I saw it crack before bad things happened.

As a Distribution Natural Gas Technician Specialist who went “On Call” Tuesday until next Tuesday I haven’t gotten much sleep. This has been my ATM. Lots of overtime fiddling with this thing.
