Do you guys think it will shut down the fishing? Walleye more than panfish?

I don’t think it will cause too big of a shut down this weekend considering the full moon, but shortly after I think it will cause them to finally enter their mid season slump.
I too am curious on other opinions on this.

Hope not. Taking the 3yo for his first ice fishing trip this weekend. Good thing we’ll have Paw Patrol and Dinotrux as backup.

I also hope not but I’m not feeling too optimistic…on a fishing trip in nestor falls the 18th-25th and our high for the entire week as of right now looks like 5 degrees. Not the best conditions considering we’ll be running portables, but we’ll just have to make it work!

I think we are easing in to it through the week in the right way to the point it should be all good by Saturday.
I’m no expert it’s just what I’ve noticed

Lotw is the only place I’ve had good cold front fishing in January. Good luck out there!

Headed to Devils Lake, fishing Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning. Guessing it wont be a hot bite and may have to go deeper for perch, walleyes still may come in that 15ft range early and late

I don’t know about ML, but they bite at -30 on UPRL? I guess I will find out Sunday-Monday?

I will be on Upper Red Thursday-Monday. I have a little experience up there but not a ton. Do you expect the cold temps to push the fish a little deeper. I was planning on fishing 9-12 FOW but thought maybe 15′ would be better with the cold temps?

We’ll be in the same area the 18th-20th and timing it perfect… daytime highs will be -10, -12, and -5. We won’t be running portables though… open air is the only way to go fishing the shield.

Normally I would agree with you but based on what we’ve seen in the past 6 to 8 months in Weather/fish related patterns, it seems we can’t count on anything.

We’ve never really had a good trip when temps go way below zero, but I was curious on others experiences. Forecast for Brainerd is high -1 on Sat and low of -20. Plus we are almost always in portables and like to grill outside and that all becomes much less pleasant in those temps.

I was also curious about ice conditions, especially on Mille Lacs. The last time I was out there at -20 there was a huge boom and a crack opened up on the North end. And… I just got off the phone with Hunter’s Pt and all there roads are currently closed sounded like some problem not sure what.

flame flame flame For many reasons, some my own fault, this weekend will be my first time out for the season. After all the moderate weather this is what I get??? We’ll be north of Grand Rapids just to take full advantage of it.

Guys trip was set months ago, no turning back now.

Anybody see the current forecast?? I’m looking at the Brainerd area, calling for NW winds 15-30 mph on Wed night and Thurs. And then -4 for a high and -23 lows for Thurs / Fri again. Brutal!!

I thought the cold wasnt going to effect my fishing this last weekend. But man was I wrong. All night through the bloodmoon I hit 1 fish. Marked a bunch and only had 1 small walleye commit. Hope the cold has been here long enough the fishing will be back to decent. Sure takes a lot of fun out of it when it’s this cold.

I think their high for the next 10 days is like 10 or 12 with many – double digit lows – Why do we live her again jester

I’ve been trying a new lake that I know has big pike in it from the summer fishing it, and I’ve gotten one good one in the last week in three trips. A couple other bites but no more landed. Been very slow for me over this last cold front. Going out again tomorrow before the next one and hope I can get in between them. Hopefully it doesn’t shut it down because last week was tough for me.

To me Pike is the one fish that is the most effected by cold fronts and changing pressure in the winter months. I’ve seen really hot bites go cold with just a slight cold front or changing pressure.
Good luck out there – Hopefully they will bite well for you prior to the next really cold front on the way.

Drilled 200 some holes on sunday looking for crappies all over 3 different lakes I’ve caught lots on before. Tried new lakes and a failsafe. And nothing. Didn’t even mark any crappies. I’m sure they moved deeper to get to even warmer water than the basins I drilled out.

This cold is following me. It was this cold at devil’s lake and lake of the woods. The cold spell has definitely hampered the bite. Now im in the Brainerd area and the arctic temps have followed me here. Was hoping to do some fishing before the extravaganza. If the bite stays tough, might tap out on that idea.

I feel for you guys doing the extravaganza. Really changes the game when it’s that cold.
