Here are a couple pics of a mixture of Clover and Alfalfa that I planted in central SD back in late July. It’s coming along nicely. Might need a little spot seeding this spring to fill in some holes, but overall I’m happy. This 1 acre plot has been notorious for stunted growth. I’ve tried all kinds of stuff in it. No luck. I think I finally found the right crop.

That is coming in very well. Do you have a cam on it? I would think the deer would be hitting that pretty good.

Sort of. As you look at the first pic, facing west/northwest. Just west of the box blind there is a camera over a mineral site. I need to move it.

That would be cool if you could get the cam over the mineral with the alfalfa in the background…just to see what is using the alfalfa.

Holy carp. It’s GREEN! In central SD that must be just a huge magnate for pulling in deer…and with water and mineral there too.
    NICE!!

Is that anywhere near Mobridge? My brother owns a supper club there.

Nice plot. You must have found the right mix and gotten the right weather to get it going.

Do you have a dual detect/plot watcher mode on your cameras? I just started using that feature on one of my cams and I positioned it so the entry to the food plot is right next to the camera, but the camera “looks” out at the plot.

The cam snaps a pic every time it detects motion, but it also snaps time lapse images of 1 every 5 minutes out at the plot during certain times of day to pick up any deer that are using the plot but not coming close to trip off the camera. I’d think that kind of setup might work well on that plot.

I’ll be doing something different on that plot when I get home opening weekend to hunt. I’ve considered putting up a “flagpole” on the east end and putting a plotwatcher on it.
