Good Ice at Clear Lake and Fish too

    I fished Clear Lake this morning from 11am to 5pm. The ice thickness was 7″ to 10″. I fished the West side of the island in 12 foot of water. The Yellow Bass were hoovering on the lake bottom. I caught 22 and 1 throw back and one got away at the ice hole.

    I caught 7 Walleyes 2-12″ and 5-7″ to 9″, darn no keepers.

    I fished with a variety of lures: I liked the sweedish pimples: Silver w/glow, Gold also. I caught with a Orangish glow hook too, The typical White Glow was popular too.

    It was a blast today despite the high winds, now I get to clean the fish. I’m trying to attach a photo of my catch.

    Nice fish Barb. Sure wish we had some safe ice around here.
    I’ve never fished anywhere that had yellow bass. Are they in the striper family?

    Another good start to the day despite getting on the Ice an hour off my schedule. I hit the ice at 8am sharp. I dropped the Aqua-view camera down a hole, prepped the ice house for another windy day. I sat down and turned the camera on: There’a Yellow Bass looking right at me

    I quickly prepped the fishing rod and before I could get the second line in the water the fish started hitting. I had 6 within 10 minutes and then by 9am I was moving around looking for more fish. I found myself looking for my old fishing holes from the afternoon before. I found 4 more in that spot over the next 3 hours.

    Total Count: 10 yellow bass
    1 Small Walleye

    Sal I guess there close to the stiper family, but I’m not sure. I will tell you this: when they hit you tend to notice. 1 Yellow bass yesterday nearly cost me my rod, he settled for my handy red rod holder.

    I’ll be frying them up today or tomorrow. I think they’ll last a week or two…..

    Nice fish Barb I get over the flu I hope to get over and get some when fishing the island area make sure you give the island tip a wide birth has it tradionly has weak ice evenin a good year

    I fished the west side of the Island Sat morn. and there was good ice, but it did look like a maybe there was a spring there. I didn’t get to close but I thought I seen about a 2.5 foot found spot of open water just west of the island.

    I was told of a hole in the ice, someone roped it off.

    I didn’t see any bad Ice areas where I fished.
