Thanks for the info John (bigesox) on the crankbait bite in deeper water. That’s what we did late Saturday night. Staying in 9-11 feet of water we trolled the northwest corner of the lake. On the second pass there she was, the biggest fish I have ever pulled out of Clear Lake-25 1/4″. Very fat and healthy. Took a quick picture and back in she went. Later on the same pass, another strike. This one was just short of keeping at 13 1/2″. Following that pass with nothing else, we went over toward the narrows that lead into Ventura Bay. First pass and a 15 1/2″ decided to cooperate. Unfortunatly that was it, but had a great time. The big one came on a crawdad colored jointed shad rap and the others came on a craw colored bomber-A.

Thanks for the post Clayfish. I trolled up the winner on a jointed blue/white shad rap down at Rathbun under clear skies and with no wind on Saturday. 23″ fish just smacked the rap just after it quit plowing the bottom of a little shelf and jumped off into deeper water. Jointed or lots of wobble seems to be what’s taking the fish these days. Can’t wait until the Fall bite gets going.

Congrats on your winning fish. How did the tourny go? Are you guys getting back up to Clear Lake or Brushy again this year? Hopefully this fall will be a lot better than the first part of this year.

We had 6 boats which is about typical. Cabela’s sponsors a tournament for all the little clubs and they give clubs slots based on numbers etc. We have one slot for a 2 man team. We have to get them the names of our entrants by the middle of October so we’ll be wrapping up our season on Oct. 9th on the big river at Lansing. Next year’s tournament schedule is set so anybody who fishes walleyes who’s interested can join the club and try to qualify for the Cabela’s tournament. $150K in prizes. Most of the tournaments are either on the Mississippi (3) or walleye lakes Clear, Rathbun, etc. So you don’t have to live in W’loo Cedar Falls to participate. I suppose it would be helpful to live east of here vs west like you Clayfish. Maybe there’s a central Iowa club for folks like you.

Thanks John for the info. Maybe someone else reading this might contact you for some more info. Sounds like a lot of fun.

    Thanks again. Clay
