Looking for some tips on icing waldos in VERY clear water. During the summer its pretty easy to pick them off trolling cranks at dusk and throughout the night from 5-13 feet of water especially on full moon nights. But during the winter I can’t ever seem to get hardly any action. Other people seem to say theres only “1 hour before sundown” to catch them but I would think they would bite more than that. Any tips from you guys on catching them day or night in really clear water?

Hour before sunset-hour after sunrise, watch moonrise and moonset as well. They have feeding windows, you just need to be there for them. And it’s not like clockwork.

I see Brainerd in your address. Any chance you’re talking about Gull?

Probably not with the depths your talking about. Just in case I’ve done very poorly outside of the main primetime of sunset. Still in the warm cabin for the sunrise window.

Not specifically Gull, no, but I’ve basically had the same luck (very little) on Gull, North Long, Round… basically most of the clear bigger lakes around here. Seem to do well during summer but ice hits and I get humbled quick lol.

Go deeper 20-40 ft and be there for prime time like the other guys have said.

I will try it, would you suggest that deep even at sundown? I never have just seems like that would be more of a daytime depth but clearly I don’t know or I wouldn’t have asked razz

I don’t get much action in the winter either. That’s why I go fishing. shock
