clear water crappie fishing

I’m at a lake in Florida for the winter and we have a spring fed lake that is super clear. I have a green light that I put in at night and can see it 25 ft down, my question is what are some good tips for fishing a lake this clear. Catching crappies in the day light hours is next to impossible. My fish locator will show scores of fish in the lake but when the sun starts to shine there is nothing, even when I stay in the same place. Same as evening hours, when it’s daylight no fish soon as the sun set and it turns dark fish everywhere. I’ve been able to catch 2 14inch at night trolling but nothing hardly using minnows. Sure would appreciate some input on how to fish this type of lake. Thanks

I really enjoy trolling small crankbaits and spinnerbaits for crappies.

Crappies will not like super bright sunshine much. Days with some wind rippling the water’s surface might be good fishing for crappies. Finding shade sources otherwise is maybe your salvation. Docks and weeds of course will offer shade close to or in the water, but look at structures tall enough to cast shadows that surround the pond as well…. tall trees too.

You may have to pay attention to water temps and thermoclines too at some times of the year. If you are dealing mostly with white crappies keep your searches in more open water. Black crappies are the most light sensitive during the day and will be those that lean on shade and/or submerged structure.

Try to fish at night with baits that are a little bigger profile and create some noise.

My son lived in Florida for a time and was in a bass club there. He fished a few tourneys on different lake there also the Stick Marsh a little. Everything seems to hit Junebug colored plastics down there whether it be bass, bluegill or crappie.
