What are some of the ways you guys clean your cape mounts? I have my beautiful deer from 2010 hanging in my living room, and I’m thinking I should at least dust it. But I wasn’t sure if lightly vacuuming it would be a good idea. My vacuum suction can be adjusted for vacuuming delicately, so I could do that. Is there anything I should definitely not do? Like using a damp rag, perhaps? Thanks much!

Put the dust brush on the vac and go over it lightly being sure to go with the direction the hair lays.

I’ve always heard that running a slice of white bread lightly over the hide is an excellent way to remove the majority of the dust and lint.

x2 – Every couple months I brush the mount off with a Swiffer duster.

I tried the shampoo and conditioner the first time and he didn’t like it when I accidentally got some shampoo in his eyes. grin

Little windex on eyes, damp rag on hair. To shine up hair use some lanolin hair spray. On horns,Scotts liquid gold

In taxidermy school they used foaming shaving cream. Dream to shine them up nice and give them a little scent to. Removes dust real well

Taxidermist friend of mine said to use a clean paint brush, just make sure you brush with the hair
