Cleaning a meat slicer

    Ours is a PIA to clean. The blade comes off to clean but no other parts like the carriage. Anyone have meat slicer that is easy to clean? We don’t need industrial quality as we only use it to slice chicken breast, turkey breast and boneless ham.

    I’ve owned several of them and they are all a PIA to clean. Little pieces of meat seem to get pushed into every small crevice. I only use mine when I have a rather large amount of meat that needs slicing.

    not sure what model i have but its an LEM slicer. the blade comes off and the guide flips over. i think it cleans fairly easy!! j ust used it to slice 25 lbs of venision muscle meat for jerky.

    I have a LEM also. Mighty bite 8 1/2 belt drive. Pretty easy clean up. The blade and slider/carriage are removable, and I’ve found no place hard to get to for cleaning. Only one I’ve owned so cannot compare them.

    I don’t own a slicer but would compressed air work to clean all the meat packed in the crevices and hard to reach areas then spray down with isopropyl alcohol?

    I used to work at a sandwich shop in college. Had to clean the machine after ever shift. It is a PITA and there is no way I could find around it. We basically disassembled every part we could then placed it in the sink and hosed it down.

    And this is the exact reason so many kitchen appliances get used once and never again. It’s not worth using it unless doing massive quantities for a big cookout or something.

    Easy is a relative term. I worked in kitchens when I was younger and cleaned the meat slicer hundreds, maybe thousands of times it’s not that big a deal for as often as you use them at home. In a restaurant, It’s just another part of your day.

    I have an LEM. I wipe it down when done. I then let it dry for a day. Anything I didn’t get falls right off when dry.

    Thanks for all the replies. I was hoping there was a home use one that completely disassembled for easier cleaning. The blade comes off ours but not the carriage or any other parts (short of taking out numerous screws).

    Guess I’ll live with what we have. We use it sporadically and when we have multiple pieces to slice.

    So I now just hose our lem off basically soap it down and have a brush and get all the nooks and crannies and then use the sink spray thing. let it sit out in the open for a bit and its never given me much issue over the past decade i’ve owned it.

    I have a Krups Slice It. Gotta be 20+ years old. All plastic except for the blade. Breaks down all the way. Don’t know if they’re still sold. Ok for my occasional light use.

    Sorry for the dirty joke but this thread reminds me of one a colleague who was about 40 years older than me told: Ran into an old friend and asked him how things were going. He says well I got fired from my job. I ask what happened. He says well I got caught with my d!ck in the meat slicer. I said oh man, what did they do with the meat slicer? He says, well they fired her too.
