With the kids school closed we checked a few boxes off the activity list today.
One of them was cleaning the taxidermy in the house, something that should probably get done at least annually but a few years can sneak by, especially on hard to reach/take down ones.
Man a few of them were way dirtier than the looked from a distance lol
Got everything done, 7 fish, 2 bears and 9 deer. It would have been an hour and a half project, but it turned into nearly three (in a fun way).
The boys had me recount every story about every mount
Some stories were quick, some were long, but they had a great time hearing about The Six-Mile Buck (a deer that I wounded two miles into a hunt and killed four miles later), Second Chance (a buck that I missed at 9am and killed at 3pm), Freddy (for no good reason), Licker (killed him while he was licking a branch), Wrong Spot (climbed a tree in the dark, turned out I was on the wrong ridge), Batman (a buck that was a ghost), Eat Me (a bear that climbed up to within inches of my feet), Mr. Brows (a buck with huge browtines), and others. Some named, some not.
We had a lot of fun while getting something productive done.
Break out the duster (pre-clean), damp rag (wipe down) and glass cleaner/Q-tips (for the eyes).
Your mounts will appreciate it, and you’ll have fun remembering the stories.
