This morning I caught a northern on this Mepps spoon. The action on it is real nice and you can fish it pretty slow. It very reflective in the water and it also casts pretty well for a light spoon. I lost my silver one last season and this is the only one I have left. I went to look at buying some more today only to find that these are no longer made. They’re called “classic” now on ebay.

Is anyone familiar with this spoon? Any ideas on a replacement with similar action? The action of a Dardevle spoons are quite different.

You could most likely make one very very similar with a willow blade and some lure tape. Just drill a second hole opposite the one that comes in the willow. Couple split rings and a decent treble and have at it. Take your silver one along to compare with the willow blades for sizing.

I think the red plastic tubing on the hook adds a lot to the flash and the action. I could probably buy tubing like that and add it to another light spoon. I’ve never done “do it yourself” lure modifications.

Check out Netcraft’s or Barlows Tackle’s online sites. You can get everything you need on either one including the hook tubing, Bob. Tackle crafting yourself is a fun hobby and there’s nothing on earth like catching fish on something you’ve made yourself.
