I was at a Scheels today and they have most of their ice fishing stuff out now. I looked at the ice rods and I saw Clam has a new rod out this year. It’s called the “katana” they have an interesting grip, it almost looks like really porous foam, kinda looks like they are going for the look of the Elliot rod grip. I will say I have a few of their rods that I really like, they have up’d their rod game the last few years. They have decent guides for fishing outside now and the $60 price tag beats “custom” rod prices. Check them out if you are in the market. They had a noodle,UL and ML on the rack.

I wonder how they compare to the legacy rods? They always ran $100 but last year I got a couple for $40 a piece. Maybe the katana replaced the legacy.

I have two Legacy rods 32″ ML my favorite rod for eater walleye and big Perch. These Katana rods seemed similar, I almost bought one but self control got the better of me.

I was at scheels the other day and checked out these new katana rods. I’m not a fan of the grip at all. Feels really cheap and rough to me. The Winn grips on the legacy rods were a lot better imo

I agree on the legacy grips. I liked them a lot. Not to say I didn’t like the grips on the Katana….but the jury is definitely still out. I wouldn’t be afraid to try one if I needed another ice rod.

I am a big fan of the Legacy rods. I agree on the grips of these Katana rods. Not my favorite. The feel of the actual rod seems pretty nice though. I have a hard time not using my TUCR’s though.

I’m assuming they quit making the legacy rods? Didn’t see them listed on there website anymore

I think they discontinued them. I assumed that was the reason behind the closeout pricing last year.

I’m have a few TUCR too. I like their rods but with my budget I like the 2 for the price of one option too.

Are there any folks from Clam on this site that could chime in on if the Legacy rods were discontinued? I’ve always found marketing of these products interesting. I’m sure there is much more that goes into it than what the end users understand.
