This is the mesh one that fits in the ice hole. Pros and cons, please.

Seems like a waste of money. Slit their gills right after you catch them and throw them in a bucket with some snow so they don’t freeze. Freshest filets this way.

I have the large one that Bruce Marsh offered before Clam bought his Today’s Tackle out. I use it when I’m dock fishing or from a canoe or when a live well isn’t handy. It helps keep the fish alive unless its really warm water or the weather is super warm. I never tried it on the ice even though that’s what it was designed for.

I’ve been with a buddy that’s used one, they work okay if it’s not too cold out or in a heated shack. Just make sure to pull on it here and there so it doesn’t freeze to the sides of the hole.

I myself prefer a 3.5 gallon sheetrock mud bucket, I top the fish off with snow and can still stack a graph on top of it.

On the drive/ride back it keeps the fish contained, the graph protected and takes up less room than a 5 gallon.

Just used mine with a 2 limits of crappies. I love it, when you get done fishing throw them bucket and drive home and the fish are still alive and super easy to clean. I did have issue with it not fully getting into the hole but that was probably becuase of a lot of fish, in the a rush popping a lot fish and not cleaning the hole well. But it is a still a great investment.

So, I am a big fan of mine.

I’m not sure what brand mine is but I have something almost exactly like that and I like it.

^This is the way that works best.

Snow in the bucket, add fish with slit gills, sprinkle in some more snow as you add fish, and your fish will have white fillets and less of a mess to clean when you get home. I’ll sometimes clean them right on the tailgate with a giant cutting board if I’m giving the fish to someone who came along with. There’s no mess whatsoever that can’t be contained to one plastic bag.
