"City Slicker" returns

After a month long hiatus. “City Slicker” returns to my backyard to inspect the wife’s bird seed dispenser. Not much I can do about it. I am in the city limits despite the corn field on the one side. There are houses everywhere. Still awesome to see this buck supporting HUGE headgear. I had no idea I had this kind of deer right under my nose. Just goes to show you how adaptable whitetails are. There is no bedding cover anywhere around that I can see. Must just be laying in the corn field all day. There are metro city tags available, but only for certain parks, and I am most positive they are doe only for population control. Tempting as it may be to pop a ground blind up, I’m going to take the high road and just continue to photograph this fine specimen. Hard to sleep at night knowing this monster is tip toeing around 150 yds from my pillow though!!!!

I would double and triple check your city ordinances…

Awww, c’mon. Would anyone REALLY miss just one deer? I mean there’s probably a million of em there. Just one wouldn’t hurt.

I have no idea where you’re located, but the MBRB hunts in Minneapolis/St. Paul allow bucks and does both depending on which section you’re hunting. I did one not far from my home (St. Paul) and have to admit that it was a pretty cool experience. If I had seen anything like you’ve got in those pictures it would have been even cooler!

Thats an awesome deer. Thanks for sharing the pics.

If you can pattern him at all, you might be able to find that he is spending a portion of his time on huntable land. It wouldn’t be easy, and you would certainly need to make sure your ducks are in a very neat row when hunting around city limits, etc, etc… but you might score the buck of a lifetime.

For now though, I like the pics. And kudos to you for taking the lawful route. Where my brother lives, there is a section of woods that has a lot of deer in it and no one is supposed to hunt there without written permission from the company that owns it. In the past 3 years, there have been several Boone and Crockett bucks poached off the land. Temptation is too great for many

My big infatuation is tracking a deers age. Since I’ve never seen this deer before……I’m not sure of the age. From what I can tell from his lack of back sway and a tight belly and brisket; I think he is pretty young. The bodies of the big buck and the young buck look pretty similar. I have some OLD bucks on camera at a different location where I have a definite age at 5.5 plus, and they have a big saggy gut and big brisket. I would guess this is a buck that is relatively young. I would guess 4.5 year old with Kick A$$ genetics.

    What do you guess think?

Judging by picture 990 I would agree in saying 4.5 years old.

Certainly no more than 5.5 at the oldest. Likely 4.5.
