I’ve got a simpler remedy for all this Bu!!shirt. Have all holidays fall on Sunday, so the kids aren’t in school anyway. That would give all the politically correct yuppies nothing to biotch about. They surely have better things to worry about like, paying for little Mary’s cell phone bill when she is only 4 yrs. old or little Johnie’s BMW payment when he is 16 yrs. old plus insurance. Or paying the kid’s college tuition for them ( lord forbid them from working for their own tuition).

Can you tell that these yuppies are about to make me Puke. You are correct.

Just an observation in tolerance, if this thread was posted on a forum out West where I am, it would have been locked down by the second or third reply. There would be fear that just the topic would scare potential members from joining. It has been interesting seeing the thread go to 2 pages without name calling and the looser moderating, refreshing.

I don’t know Hamm but where I went to school we made valentines cards and it was for friendship at that time. And there’s been times here in town even with all its money that teachers had to spend their own money for writing paper just so some students could write on a subject because of hardship reasons that their families were going through. And we are a democracy because you can either make it your choice to be an American or not, even though you live here, and also choose weather you want to vote or not and make free decisions. Is this subject turning politically correct too or is it just opinions?

if any of you can,and did listen to WHO radio out of Des Moines, when Steve Daice was the afternoon talk show host,he always said political correctness was the delusional belief that you could pick up a turd by the clean end.

when I was in grade school back in the early seventies, when a holiday came around, the teacher or some member of the faculty made sure that no one went without a valentine card,or Christmas present.
we need the traditions so we can remember how we got here, and where we are from,it gives us balance and direction.

sad to say we are the richest nation in the world and people are still poor in it,but I dont believe for one minute that it should be socialist in any way,we all have the ability to overcome and rise above our circumstances.

coming from a poor farm background,I can personally tell you that it was not an easy row to hoe,but I did it.
I know what its like to win,and lose, and I have used those losses as stepping stones to where I am at now, never give up regardless of where you are at in life.

profit mongering food manufacturers have mutated our food into such a form so far removed from back in the day that allergies are now a reality. It seems absurd for someone who never feared peanuts, milk, gluten (AAAAHHHHHHH!). But these allergies are real and very dangerous.

Some smaller kids have NO idea what to look for and what to watch for. Teachers are already bombarded with so many non teaching requirements and distractions we can’t reasonably rely on them to remember and worry about each nutritional requirement of each child.

We have a friend who is a teacher have one of her kids eat something with peanut dust or some crap in it and she had to shove a freaking epipen into the kids thigh.

I think this couldn’t be more true. Whatever they’re adding to the food supply and processing as well, is changing people’s health at a high rate of speed. I went to elementary school and high school from the mid 80’s thru the late 90’s and it was a rarity to have someone allergic to nuts or gluten and whatever else. Autism seemed to not be as prevalent as well. Almost all of us ate the standard American diet back then, which looking back wasn’t very healthy even with the veggies and fruit. But something in the last 10-15 years has changed. Many of my friend’s kids were either born with some type of allergy or developed one by age 3 or 4. Most of my friends are in their mid 30’s and even some of them have developed these food allergies in the last few years, not to mention a few of them have developed type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

I replied to HAMM but not really pointed at anyone.

Seems to be 2 different topics of conversation here:

    1. Celebrating American National holidays (ie. Halloween, Valentine’s Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving etc.)

    vs

    2. Celebrating Christian Centered Holidays (ie. Christmas and Easter)

I, personally, don’t understand why percentage of race or creed of students in St. Paul has anything to do with celebrating American National Holidays in American PUBLIC schools.

IMO, celebrating Christian holidays in schools is WAY more PAGAN than Christian now-a-days. (ie, Jingle Bells, Rudolph, Santa’s presents, Bunny, Eggs, Candy). There hasn’t been the story of Jesus Christ shared in public schools since I was kid (38 years old ).

I remember when I was in sports and when someone cocked off or screwed up we all paid the price. NOW, when someone has a hardship, no one is allowed celebration???? Are my old coaches (whom I loved dearly) now writing public school policy???

If students cannot afford costumes on halloween and valentines on valentines day I wish my son’s teacher would give me the list I would personally pay for them. They all deserve that joy of the fun days. INSTEAD I get a dejected kindergartener that didn’t get to put on his Power Rangers costume to show his classmates. And no one gets to experience a fun day at school which we all know is full of boring, crappy days that make them not want to go at all.
