Can anyone give me pointers on where to go to find some rainbow/lake trout near Ely, MN? I`ve never fished for rainbows before, and we would like to spend some time up north this Christmas. Our group (3 people) all have snowmobiles and would like to go to a lake where getting there requires snowmobiles, or has a hard way to get to the lake. Any tips? Spots?

Not sure, but I don’t think there are any trout lakes open at Christmas time. Within the bwca maybe, but they would be lake trout lakes.
Stream trout lakes typically open the nearest Saturday to January 15th.
That is correct. The BWCA lakes open January 1st while lakes outside of the BWCA open on January 17th this coming year.
