Christmas crap…..

We stopped at Menards North in Rochester to pick up a couple things and there wre six, seven dudes hustling their rears off putting up Christmas displays. Mid-September and we have to see this crap taking place already…. and right next to the Halloween crap. These corporate box stores must be desperate. Or just flat out greedy. I liked life much better when the Christmas crap wasn’t out until AFTER Thanksgiving.

Yep I walked into a BIG Box store once and couldn’t find the Halloween decorations. So I asked an employee “Where’s the Halloween stuff.” Her answer was “Over behind the Christmas decorations” doah shock

If this is what upsets you in life, you may want to rethink a few things.

If people are going to put it up right after Thanksgiving, they have to buy it before Thanksgiving

Eventually they’ll get the Xmas stuff out earlier and earlier until they work themselves back into phase, like early December. Early Xmas crap doesn’t bother me as much as stores that think fishing season is over after Labor Day and replace it all with ice fishing gear.

    That’s a definite opinion.

Foe me, having everything decked out with lights, a blinking tree, turning off lights, snow falling, sitting at a table with blinking lights, feasting on pretty much the same foods as thanksgiving, is where it’s at for me.

Thanksgiving is far superior than Christmas.

Not even close. That’s why there are no Thanksgiving songs.

Retailers learned that if they put it out now, people will buy it and will buy it without even having sale prices on it. Retailers also don’t have room to keep it in their warehouses and stores so need to put it on the floor as it comes in.

What’s funny is how people complain about this but not complain about summer stuff being put out in January. I get that Christmas is different in that you don’t want to get tired of it months before it actually arrives. But my solution is to literally avert my eyes and don’t even look at the Christmas stuff until at least November.

Ya that’s definitely bush league. Scheels will be doing that soon and by mid October virtually no open water fishing tackle will remain. I was in there last year on Oct 11 looking for muskie stuff and it was nowhere to be found. flame

Frankenmuth Michigan apparently has the biggest Christmas store in the world. My daughter and her spouse went there and they were overwhelmed. They could not tour the whole store. If you like Christmas go there.

my take is christmas is WAY to commercialized. for me its getting most the family together as lives are pretty busy and that and thanksgiving are about the only times it happens.

    You never go to menards?

Try not to. I order my supplies through work. I’m a terrible shopper. 3 seconds in to a store I’m over it and want to go home. But I was just teasing more then anything

Did a 6 month pipeline job in Santa Clause Indiana. They are absolutely nuts for Christmas there. It’s eerie listening to Christmas songs at the grocery store in July. If your ever around southern Indiana I suggest you move on through without stopping Jimmy. It took me about 10 years for the ptsd to subside enough for me to watch a hallmark movie with the wife after thanksgiving. Thank god my crew eventually got kicked out of the county by the Sheriff.

One of the other big reasons we’re seeing this stuff early this year is all the shipping/supply chain issues. 100% imported stuff and if they wait until they would “normally” bring it in, they might not get it in time.
As someone else stated above, there’s no room in the warehouse for this stuff so it’s gotta go on the floor.

From a different perspective – Corporations like Target recently released earnings stating they have and plan to take a loss on consumer goods from the Covid era. They plan to sell as much current inventory at a loss for Black Friday sales and have to stock Holiday inventory in it’s place. Factor in a stressed supply chain and they absolutely have to begin preparing now.

There’s more analytics behind this then just some store feeling festive…
