Sick of my current gas auger its only a few years old and it leaks gas ,I’m interested in getting A new one for Christmas I have looked at 10 inch propane powered jiffy and like ,but i am not so sold on propane i usually blast a lot of holes when i do go ice fishing and the ice can be up to 2 feet thick sometimes i see that as spending a ton more on propane each season , i am more interested in a battery powered auger . I see strikemaster advertising there lithium battery auger comes with a spare battery that would be the option I’m leaning toward , what are the pros cons with each propane or battery any input is appreciated

my opinion would be to go with the Lithium option. Jiffy makes a great auger, but a 10″ Jiffy is 35 lbs vs a 10″ lithium strikemaster is 27 lbs. they are virtually the same price, and like you stated, you wouldnt have to deal with propane if you went with the lithium. with the extra battery thrown into the strikemaster deal, IMHO its a no brainer. I love my 3HP Solo, but if I were to get another auger, it would be Lithium forsure.

Propane is great..lots of power and speed.. more so than any battery powered auger Ive used. Really is no downside that I have found besides keeping the tank warm when its crazy cold out.
If you are popping a ton of hole the Jiffy Pro4 10in.. would be my last choice.. Its a great auger.. its the one I use most.. but its probably the heaviest one on the ice.
If your used to cutting the lake up like Swiss cheese with gas.. I think you would be disappointed in the Batt. augers. Not that they arnt capable of doing it.. it would just be a big drop off in speed and power from what you are used to. Propane is kinda that middle ground. IMO

I have the eskimo propane and love it. you will not spend much on propane. A green tank will last a very long time, not sure on an exact number, but one has lasted me several trips and I like to drill a lot of holes.

fires up on one pull every time, no gas smell, exhaust is odorless. I can see some appeal in the electric ones, but I don’t want to have to worry about a battery dying on the ice.

If you want to drill lots of holes through thick ice, battery is not your answer. I have the Eskimo propane as do many of my buddies. Have not heard of any complaints.

King, if you were a good boy last year Santa will bring you a propane auger. If not you’ll get a battery operated, or gas.

Why 10″ if you “usually blast a lot of holes”?
If I recall the math on it correctly, there is a 50% increase in ice removed from 8″ to 10″.
