I’m thinknig about hitting Chisago/S. Lindstrom this weekend and wondering if anyone has been out there recently? What’s the water clarity like, has the alge bloom happen?

    Thanks!~

Dan, fished up there sunday morning. We pulled 3 17″s, one 19″ and a bunch of 14-15 “ers. Spinnerbaits, tubes, ringworms and cranks all caught fish. The water is heavy with algae and a lot of the weeds are dieing off in 3-6 fow.

need to stay deeper, the shallow water is way to warm right now uless you are fishing shaded water. I have had better luck deeper.

    Thansk for the updates,
I still have not made it out there yet this year but have all week off next week and will definatly be hitting this lake.

    Shane-
What do you consider deeper out there? The deepest I have caught and really only fished is ~15 feet. Are you fihsing much deeper?

    Thanks

withing 15 feet. the fish that i caught today where in less 9 feet of water. just look for nice green weeds and a hard bottom. hope that helps.

Its great to have the heat gone! I spent a very pleasant Friday fishing Chisago/S. Linstrom with a good buddy from Wisconsin. We talked more then fished but ended the day with several nice bass, the largest coming in at 4 pounds. All fish came on the weed edges and rock/weed points less then 9 ft deep on a number of presentations with the best coming on Power worms. The highlight for myself was the one that got away@ Working a swim-jig slowly on a subtle point I had a rather soft strike; my mistake was not setting the hook hard enough! I knew I had a good fish but didn’t know how big until I got the fish by the boat. I try not to exaggerate fish size but this fish made the 4 pound bass caught early look small. I can only give an estimate but my guess was over the 5 pound range, perhaps close to 6. The fish came unbuckled at the boat, I set the rod down and had to sit down to collect myself. Its great to still get this kind of rush from the sport of angling. This might have been my largemouth of a lifetime, but I guess not today. But then again, its was a great day on the water swapping stories with a good friend. Not bad! The lake is in great fishing shape, I didn’t notice a lot of algae, there were lots of weeds floating on the water indicating a change in seasons.

I finally got out today for some earlier morning fishing. (got on ~6:15)
Fishing was very good for numbers but the size was lacking. For the day the biggest fish ~17′. I caught fish on a variety of lures, (small cranks, jig, texas rigged worms, spinnerbaits) but by far the most effective was a baby 1- in firetiger color, the fish hammered the bait.
All the fish where caught in the 5-8 foot range. I tried reeds, wood and deeper water but had no luck in either of these places. The fish where all located around the remaining living weeds.
    Water temps where around 68.
Thanks for all the help–I hope to get out there again soon,

I got with an old friend on Friday around 9 and we fought the wind for ~4 hours.
The fishing was surprising great. We think that we ended up getting over 30 some bass for the day with the around 15 being bigger that 14’.
The two lures that we used where the baby 1- in fire tiger and a double Colorado spinnerbait. I was using the baby 1 for much of the day and probably caught 3 fish to his 2 but my fish where nothing like his in size. Once I change over to a spinnerbait, the size greatly improved for me.
The fish all came in less than five feet on the wind clown side of the lake and hit after a brief pause, ripe from the weeds, or deflection off some wood.
The big fish of the day came in at a 20 1/8” and was as fat of a fish as I’ve seen. The only thing that would made the fish better was if I caught it.
The fishing should only be getting better out there.

Nice fish Dan! I was up there the 16th and had trouble putting fish in the boat. Looks like the bite has turned around. I might have to get up there one more time. It may be busy up there though this weekend with the duck opener.

I was up there on sunday, 9/23, we had a hard time getting quality fish int he boat, we had some shorties, but everywhere we wanted to fish, there was a bass boat on the spot, club tourney out of WI. anyway, it was a tough day with the wind and was glad to get off the water. only 1 guy in the tourney scored 18 pounds, everyone else was around 10 on 4 fish. so the big ones went into hiding. I will be looking for em, I have a tourney up there in Oct 7th. maybe it will be changed around finally by then.

Here is a quickie report from today.

Fishing was good out there again. I think my brother and I ended up getting around 35 bass, 5 northern and one bonus eye.

We caught fish on baby 1s, spinnerbatis and rattle traps. The best bait by far was the spinner bait. The fish in general didn’t hammer the baits, just kind of sucked them in. Double colorado slowed roller was the bait of choise. The most and biggest fish went to my brother. He caught 2 19s, 18, and three 17s. The rest smaller. my biggest was 17, nice fish but nothing like his. The fish where all related to wood and the remaining weeds. Water temps where around 63-61. We didn’t take any pictures with the rain happening the whole time.

The fishing only will be getting better out there!

Sounds like you were rewarded with a great day since you stuck it out in the wet conditions. Thanks for the report Dan!
