I decided I wasn’t up for Ice Team anymore but rooting for Howard the Duck
and partner. If your there this weekend it ought to be good enough to go to Alex.February 26, 2007 at 12:04 am #541427I met Howard the Duck. Man is that guy hardcore Iceteam. He has blue hair..!!!
51 teams made this mornings blast off and 20 will qualify.
We were able to get our bluegills but came up short for our crappies. The teams that spent the week prefishing had some nice fish. 6.5 pounds was in the lead with about half the field weighed in. We came in with 2.80 pounds but still had alot of fun. Most of the bigger crappies were caught in 6 feet of water just below the ice in south Chisago. Lots of teams sight fishing. Our pre-fish crappie spots were the deepwater holes in South Lindstrom. The fish were there yesterday but gone today. It was alot of fun and met some very hardcore ice anglers. Guys and gals from all over the country.
Iceteam will be announcing a new director next week. Look for some major improvements and expansion for next year and the years to come.
February 26, 2007 at 12:58 am #541442Sounds like fun Derek. Better luck next year. Is the trap attack just one event or is it more. Havent heard much about it.
February 26, 2007 at 2:35 am #541477Its 4-5 events per year. Usually one event in MN,WI,MI,and NY. The championship is in Alexandria Mn. The top 18-20 teams per event qualify for the champ the following year. Its the PWT/FLW of ice fishing.
February 26, 2007 at 8:00 pm #541742Derek, how did they partition off vehicle traffic on the lake where everyone fished? Did they let non tourney fishers out in the area where you were fishing too? I wanted to come up and witness the event, but I wasn’t able to make it. Too bad there was such a poor turn out. It increased your chances to qualify, but doesn’t look good for future events in the area.
February 28, 2007 at 8:56 pm #542903There are some cool pics on the Ice Team website along with a short video link of the winners catching some sunfish. The winners took a check for $3533.00 and the top 20 received monetary awards. They had 7.22 lbs for 16 fish, 8 crappies and 8 sunfish. The top 20 also qualified for the Tourney in December for a chance at the big check in Alexandria. The top team wasn’t even using flashers to catch their fish.
March 1, 2007 at 4:23 pm #543329The winning team was tight-lining. You use high-vis line with a floro leader and just watch the line move when the fish hits. I would still prefer a flasher. The bite was very active, I dont think the tight-line technique was the major factor. The fact that they were on a hot weedbed was.
