Come on man! It’s the same thing every year, the bass totally shut down in the fall. I wouldn’t even bother going out there. I certainly wouldn’t fish with big tandem willow spinnerbaits, especially not a Woo Daves Smallmouth series with a purple body and chartreuse blades. Don’t even bother fishing a certain couple of bays on the east and west side of chisago. It would just be a total loss.

Make sure that you stay away from the stump fields too

Thanks for the info. I will stay clear of those baits and the stump fields. After last year my boat is all too familar with those stumps.

my folks live on South Center by Pancake island, would any of you know if the panfish are still going strong? Seems dad fishes less than when he didn’t live on the lake. So if I can get him out a bit more, that would be cool. This years bluegills didn’t seem to be as nice as the ones we caught last year. Thanks for the heads-up.

I havent had any opportunity to get out on the water since the last week in August! With the beginning of the academic year, both the week and week-ends have been filled leaving NO time left for angling. Its been driving me nuts, especially with fall being such a great time to be out.

Finally was able to get out today and decided I was long overdue for a day of fishing. After reading eveyones report, do I fish the rivers or lakes, I opted for a day bass fishing throwing spinner bait and plastics onChisago.

Thanks again,IDA for providing great information at the right time. I didnt hammer the the fish by any means, but did end up in the mid-teens in numbers with the largest about 2 pounds. Most of the fish came in 6 feet of water or less, no one spinner bait seemed to shine, I switched up color and blades all day.

Also got a couple of nicer bass pitching tubes to the ends of docks as well as tight to stumps. All in all it was a very nice day, not hammering them by any means but didnt get skunked either.

Thanks for the great information and timely reports.

Professor, did it look like the lake turned over yet? Also, are the pike in shallow too? Thanks for the report!

I got out on Saturday morning with my two brothers and ended up getting close to 30 bass, 2 northerns, 1 walleye, and 2 sunfish (caught on cranks)

Even though we had a great day on the water, we struggled to find any numbers of fished schooled together. The majority of the fish came off of jig worms with a purple or black worm. The basic cast it out jump it twice and reel in a couple feet of line and repeat was the technique that work for us. The next best bait was a man’s -1 in firetiger and then a jig and craw combo. We couldn’t by a fish on a spinner bait.

We caught fish on the inside and out side weedline, between 2 and 15 ft. We couldn’t find a real reason why fish would be in one weedline over another as the we had places that look very fishy and wouldn’t get any and then come to another place that looked less than promising and get a couple. We got very few fish in the wood

The bigger fish all came in the 4-6 foot range, with the biggest fish 20.5’. This was by far the smallest big fish that I ever caught. We had a Berkley weigher and this one was 3lbs 11oz. The stomach on this fish seem to be inverted in. We caught another 7 fish in the 3 lb range.

It was a nice day to be on the water and believe that when the water clears up the fish will get much more predictable.

The lake didn’t look turned over, the water was around 58-60 everywhere we went, imagine it will be happening soon though.

The one thing with the spinnerbiats, is that you can’t work them to slow this time of year. Just crawling them along seems to work best late in the fall

Dan, thanks for the update on what’s working. That is pretty unusual for that bigger fish to be so thin. Maybe it was sick or on its last days.

We did get a couple of pike off of fairly defined points, as to your question about turn over, not sure!
