Opening Weekend

I fished a section of the Chippewa River this weekend.On Saturday there were quite a few boats and not alot of fish being caught.I managed to get 3 keepers,4 slot fish and a few 10-11″ers.I left about 12:30 only to find the typical opening day problems at the landing.A guy who had never put his boat onto the trailer was having a heck of a problem getting it lined up.He had a friend and I did ask him to help…He finally got it after 15 minutes…
On Sunday there were 2 other boats,one guy was bass fishing,the other walleye.I hooked into a big sturgeon,the highlite of my day…No walleyes were caught,only a fat 16 1/2″ samllie…Pretty slow weekend. Paul

Sorry to hear that Paul, I did manage to get out for a few hours last night, no walleye but I did keep 10 nice crappie the biggest being 13.5″ in the shallows in wood, also managed 6 smally’s and a hand full of dink pike. Pretty much had the place to myself….

Took a few co-workers out last night, pounded the walleyes before that front moved in. Then the faucet shut down to a trickle. Caught a walleye and a northern at the landing waiting for the boys to show up. Never tried for the crappies as our night was cut short by the cold easterly wind and rain. Jigs and minnows in 10-14′ working the edges of the channel, we did catch a few on the flat next to the channel but the bigger fish and majority were deeper.

Made it out for a few hours this morning and caught some walleye. Wasn’t a great bite but it was a wet kinda fun. Played with the structre scan and it certainly is opening up my eyes to some new areas to fish down on the old river…

I was back out on Monday morning.I got my limit of the little ones plus a few slot fish. Some idiot just HAD to fish near me,his anchor kept loosing it’s grip.Next thing I new he was on top of me…Too bad there was NO room,only the two of us on the entire stretch… He couldn’t get anything so he left,I stayed were I was on ended up finishing my limit.Sturgeon were there thick,I had 3 of the beasts on before I was broke off every time. Real fun fights! I might fish again Friday am, Paul
