Chicken of the woods

    I have harvested and eaten these before, but it has been a couple years. I’m not 100% sure this is it. Can anyone verify that this truly is chicken of the woods?

    Yes, that’s a good example of chicken of the woods. Here’s a guide and some recipes to get you started and as mentioned here, check them thoroughly for bugs before cooking.

    Now is also the time of year that you’ll find hen of the woods, which I really enjoy. Similar spots as chickens but hens will be found at the base of oaks and sometimes maples.

    Hell yea! Thats a chicken farm! Had some last weekend. Dipped in hot sauce than breading and fried! Good sh!t. yay

    I don’t remember them being this brilliant orange in the past which is why I questioned them. Thanks for the help. I will harvest them next weekend!

    Is there another mushroom that looks similar in this area? I am no mushroom expert so just wondering.

    Which are you asking about Aaron? The Hen is a distinctive looker and nothing comes close to it. There are other red/orange mushrooms out there so having a good reference book is handy with those.
