At least 14 shot tonight alone. Maybe more. Police ambushed over the weekend. The body count is becoming unreal at this point. Night after night after night.
How can the Mayor even look at herself in the mirror ?

What??? are you saying progressive thinking isn’t working? Give it time for the social workers to take over for the cops and then you’ll see a change.
2019 statistics: 11th most dangerous city

Does seem to be a worse than normal year without digging into it too much
Chicago has some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. There’s something about those authentic thick pies that’s tough to beat.

Probably the same way you look at yourself in the mirror ?
I dont think this can be true. You can’t have guns over there so this makes no sense.
But on a serious note with out digging in to yearly stats this seems like its on the high side after last week’s shootings and now this. How could one want to live there

Chicago style pizza makes me want to vomit. Only in a city like that can they think that putting the sauce on top makes sense.
My brother lives in west Chicago (Lincoln Park). It is a relatively nice part of the city (if there is one) and its very expensive to live there. I have visited him once and it will be the only time which was for his wedding because I was the best man. I could rant for an hour on how much sucks about that place. Of all the people I’ve asked why they live there, not one could give me a good answer. It would serve us all a favor if that city just sunk off into Lake Michigan.
Next time don’t hold back, and really let us know how you feel.

Chicago has been like this since before I was born.
Nothing has changed.
I’m surprised they are starting to report the shootings locally much less national news.
PS I’ve met more people that carry (illegally) from IL then anyplace… maybe I would too if I lived in a state that didn’t allow carry?

It was taking people 8 months to get a permit to even OWN a handgun there before the pandemic hit. Two people were conducting back ground checks for the entire greater Chicago area. It takes about a week for that to get approved here by the local police department.
But how’s the fishing on Lake Michigan? I spent a long weekend in Wrigleyville last fall and had a blast. Great food and really fun bar hopping. And I agree the shootings are ridiculous.

Cities that have been liberal run for decades and yet somehow manage to blame Trump for their problems. Unbelievable really.
Keep schools closed and defund the police and really watch the city implode.
I was born in the northern suburbs of Chicago. I haven’t been there in a couple of years and still like going there. In the past, and I can’t say I know if it is the same now, but the vast majority of people getting killed were gang members killing other gang members. There has been a high number of shootings there every year since I was a kid. The national reporting of it I fear is more due to fueling a political agenda than anything else. Chicago isn’t listed in the top 25 for most dangerous city for 2020. #1 is Detroit. Memphis is #2
Well, interviewing current residents they have described it as “war-like” so something has changed.
Between the mayor bashing the head of police, allowing them to be assaulted, and the State attorney refusing to prosecute gang members when they are apprehended it’s no wonder
like i don’t think she’s a good mayor and all. but i mean come on. this clip from southpark all but sums up everyone going “why hasn’t the mayor fixed this!”
Well, when you can afford a car you come to Mpls to live.
When I worked for a bank ( The lake St. one that got burned down ) many years ago. People from Chicago referred to Minneapolis as MONEYapolis. I could not tell you how many times people would send in their Chicago welfare ID when cashing a Minnesota Welfare check. When you would say we need a Minnesota ID – They would say ” Sorry I sent you the wrong ID – Here is my Minnesota one ” Yep. They had two different ID”s. One for Chicago and 1 for Minnesota. Yep they were collecting welfare in both states.

Good to hear positive plugs for Chicago, all we hear is how bad it is.
But it isn’t that bad at all. Chicago is huge, 3rd largest populated city in the country. That many people and the total number of shootings/murders is relative to the huge population.
Like any city, even much smaller one’s there are pockets of poverty which leads to higher crime rates.
That’s not everywhere in Chicago, in fact there are far more beautiful/safer areas of the city that draws some 50+ million visitors each year.
My dad lived there for a number of years in a high rise right in the downtown loop and it was spectacular. Just a couple blocks from Grant Park and the lakefront.
(Okay, this was a very high end neighborhood but he had the $$)
Its not just the violence. Its the traffic, the extremely high cost of living, mediocre weather, poor airports, high tax rate, etc. The list just keeps going. So many reasons to NOT live there. Its just super inconvenient to try and go or do anything there.
I refuse to take a flight through there again at either airport. O’Hare has so many flights that are cancelled and/or delayed that they just see it as normal operations there. So you try to go through Midway instead and its the same deal.
So you have spent a lot of time in Chicago then. (sarcasm) The agenda I spoke of has had the intended affect on you. The south side of Chicago has been bad for 40 years. I never hung out there. North Minneapolis can be awful as well. I don’t hang out there either. Ask a law abiding citizen from either area noted and I would imagine war like would be a proper description. More so in the last couple months. I work a few blocks from ground zero in Minneapolis and trust me it is sick what has gone on around here.

Do you intend to start a thread for every sensational bit of news that gives you the opportunity to bash liberal ideology?

Do you realize you’ve basically just described every major metropolitan urban city in the country? Is it just Chicago you have disdain for? Maybe you hate the Chicago Bears?
Pick any major metro area in the US and you’ll experience most all of the same reasons you listed to NOT live there, including Minneapolis…yes/no?
People that don’t live in or near big cities are from a different mindset, and nothing wrong with that. There are no walls surrounding big cities to keep people prisoner’s, yet why is it that so many people live in the big city?
Some years ago I had a friend visit from Madison WI and he said he hated Minneapolis…traffic, confusing highways, so many people, just a clusterf*ck.
I pointed out to him, for someone coming from a small Wisconsin farm town into Madison would say the same thing about Madison. All a matter of perspective.
My city days are over though, Garrison can get too busy when all the weekenders show up Friday night.

You’re supposed to call them Citiots now that your a Northerner Andy. And while I’ve been in the concrete jungle for 9 years now, I grew up rural and will never claim otherwise! Also, say what you want about MSP, but we have great airports!!!

Respect your opinion and agree with most of what you said.
Do you intend to start a thread for every sensational bit of news that gives you the opportunity to bash liberal ideology?
Unlike some of you who will poke at Trump for each and every chance you get (even when you’re dead wrong)
I think it’s fair to criticize a mayor who continually lets blood spill on the streets, children getting murdered, and the only thing she can do is bash her own police force and refuse federal help.
