My Nissan Frontier has given me 12 pretty decent years. Lots of little electrical issues, but nothing major. Just the same I want a different 4-door 4WD pickup for my next and I’m starting to think about the Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma. The Colorado seems to be rated higher, but nothing beats hearing from owners. Anyone own one or at least know about them? Thanks

My dad has had one for about 6 months. So far he really likes it. It’s been to Florida and back and many trips up north. He averages about 23 mpg and has seen 26 a time or two. They are certainly worth a look.

I have had a 1997 Tacoma for over 17 years. Replaced starter and typical maintenance, plugs, wires, oil changes. Has been reliable as with all Toyotas I have owned. Don’t know about the Chevy’s reliability after several years and miles under their belt?

Have an 05 Colorado with 205k. Full synthetic oil changes every 5k, plugs every 50k, tires/discs/pads when needed, etc. Heck I finally replaced the serpentine belt at 200k, even though it looked good enough for another 100. New shocks at 200. U-joints went out at 200k. Biggest problem was the Catalytic blew out at 80k. Never a major issue, the only repeats over the past 12 years is it’s on the 4th set of tie rod ends and 3rd set of front wheel bearings, but I’d attribute that more to the shatty roads around here.

The only thing I would say to turn you away from the first gen Coly’s(don’t know if they were upgraded on the current version) is the brakes. They are horrible, if you do a lot of towing go up to a Full Size with 4 wheel discs.

New or used.New body styles have the new brake system. The older ones could get pricey on front brake jobs.

If you need to replace the discs at least.

Did they finally go away from the hub assembly bearing setup on the new ones?

I just bought a 2017 Colorado three weeks ago. So far I love it. Get around 22 mpg everyday driving and 16 when pulling my boat. Tows great, rides great.

Update: I found a nicely discounted 2017 Tacoma dealer-loaner truck with about 4,000 miles on it, so I’m picking it up tomorrow. It has the towing package and everything I need. I just need to get used to a white truck. ???
