My Dad and I made a drive up to Lake Chetek for some early ice panfish action.
I drilled my first hole in a neck down area that has produced in the past. There is about 4” of ice on Chetek. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Marcum reveal signs of life below me. We had set up over a nice pod of crappies. We were in 15’ of water.
We arrived at 4:00 PM and left at 6:00. We experienced a strong bite through the duration. My Dad was happy to be able to bring some fish home to my Mom.
My Dad was using different bait, but my presentation significantly outfished his offering. I was using a chartreuse/orange Lindy Techni-Glo Fat Boy tipped with a waxie. One of the things I like about the Fat Boys is that you can “fish fast” with them. They are rather heavy for a smaller profile ice jig, so you can get down quick when you are on top of active fish. We all know crappies can move out, just as quickly as they move in.
