Check Set Screw on Lite Flite

  • #1906469

Just a heads up for lite flite owners – check the top set screw.

I bought the 6 inch lite flite and very satisfied with it performance — my K-drill is collecting dust this year. The only issue I have had is that the top set screw that holds everything together has twice vibrated itself lose – thankfully not in mid-drill over the hole.

I have added a couple drops of lock-tight so hopefully will not again, and I have thrown an allen wrench in the bag I carry the auger in as additional insurance.

Nothing major and easy to solve (might have a different opinion if it came apart over the hole and sank to bottom of lake) – just something to keep an eye on.

Wrap a few layers of electrical tape around the shaft over the screw opening as well. Should keep it from backing further out if it loosens up again.

I check it before I go out for each trip. It loosened the first two trips out but hasn’t since then.

As it loosens it makes the auger bit wobble so that is your first clue that either your chuck is loose or the screw is working it’s way out.

I’ve only drilled about 15 holes with mine, but it has wobbled from the start… I looked all through it before even using it, chuck was tight, screw was tight, figured that must just be the design? Now I will have to go and double check it all again… I felt like it shouldn’t wobble and I was missing something obvious, but I have no clue what.

Mine doesn’t wobble when the screw is tight. When I first used it, I think it started wobbling on the 2nd hole.

Mine also doesn’t wobble at all when the screw is tight. It definitely does when the screw starts to loosen up. I keep telling myself that I need to get a bottle of Loc tite for it also.

Currently keeping the allen wrench in my tackle bag and snugging it up probably once a day depending on how many holes I’m drilling.

Can you post a pic or two of the set screw in the assembly. I have a ton of experience with different fasteners and locking devices. I might be able to help.

If you apply loctite, be sure to use 242 and thoroughly clean the screw and mating threads with brake cleaner. If they aren’t perfectly clean, it won’t work.

Thanks for the heads up, I’m taking mine up to the cabin on its maiden voyage this weekend and I hate to see it end up on the bottom of the Lake.
