I want to find a way to put myself on break lines and certain depths without spending too much money on a fancy piece of equipment….apps or handheld GPS?

Navionics is a $10 app and gives you contour lines and is very good.

auger and an old style clip on depth finder attached to a cheap rod. Worked for years before the green box.

Navionics and a cell phone or tablet.

The cell phone app is $10. and works Spamtastically!

This should bring up Mille Lacs. Navionics on the web

Make sure you fiddle with the settings in Navionics before you start plotting hot spots/waypoints. I think there’s a way to keep them private, otherwise when you mark a spot they can be shared with anyone who is using Navionics. Good way to give away a honey hole :).

Navionics looks like a pretty killer app… is it fairly accurate?

Your results will vary by lake, but for a lot of the popular/bigger lakes I’ve found it to be really good.

Smaller lakes that are off the beaten path lakes can be hit or miss in my experience.

Way more than $10 of value though!
