Anybody here ever fish Green Lake, WI?

I live about 30mi away, so I’ve been up 5 or 6 times now, but still have yet to get a laker topside. Plenty of interactions with slow risers, but seems like nothing I do will seal the deal.

Was up with a buddy this morning and we were both in the shack jigging near the bottom at the same time, not sure if it’s better or worse to have more than one moving bait in an area. As far as bait I’ve tried jigs/plastics tipped with shiner chunks, shiners on hooks, jigging dead shiners, various spoons, various jigging rap type baits…jiggin slowly, fast, chasing and not moving much…just can’t seem to find a winning strategy. Even tried cutting a hotdog into a tubebait shape today.

I’m open to any suggestions yall might have.

Yes used to live there in the early 90″s. I used to go to the Baptist conference center and walk off from the Rodger Williams Inn. I would fish in about 105-115′ Jig a swedish pimple and set a bobber with turkey feather and cut bait about a foot off the bottom to keep away from the mud puppies. Always caught fish. Id try to stay away from the crowds, like Horners landing area. Not sure if Conference center allows that anymore but you could ask. Otherwise it sounds like you are doing everything you should. Got a 18# laker on the wall from that area.

Nate, big green has been a destination when I was guiding. Can relate to the chasers. Geneva and Green have a lot of similarities. One day spoons being ripped away from them triggers a 40’ charge and the next is a fluttering tube.

The first thing I suggest is take it away from them. Most guys want to keep a bait in front of their nose. If they start to lift up 4 or 5 feet, start reeling up, and don’t think your going too fast. Many times it’s the faster you go the more they get on it. We’ve had them race up 30-40 feet or more

Lethargic followers need to be ticked off. We always get a few that come in and just hang out. We’ve got a few to take hair jigs tipped with cut sucker or shiners, but that’s been inconsistent for me. Had the best success working the active fish that are willing to chase

And do not be afraid to pound the jig off the bottom once in awhile

Hey thanks for the input, fellas. I’m for sure gonna keep trying, and realize it’s certainly no guarantee to get one topside, so just gotta put in more time. Appreciate the suggestions, thanks again

Try a 1/2 ounce Sebille vibrato in holo greenie color. I haven’t been to a lake yet where it wasn’t the best lure. Drop to the bottom and reel it up. Repeat all day. Don’t rule out fishing right under the ice Especially later in the ice season. More than half my bites happen right below the ice.
