Chartplotter to Force Kraken connection problem

I have a Echomap Ultra 126SV and just recently purchased a Force Kraken trolling motor and having problems with reconnecting the 2 units. The units paired and connected together easily enough and I was able to add the trolling motor to a bar on top of my mapping screens. All looked good but no.

When I shut them both off and restart them they will not reconnect with out going through the pairing process again. The trolling motor still shows up on the bar on my mapping screen of the chartplotter but it shows not connected. If I have them paired and connected and shut off only the trolling motor and then power back up the trolling motor they will connect. If I have them paired and connected and just shut off the chartplotter and power back up the chartplotter they will not connect with out going through the pairing process again. The trolling motor still shows on the bar of the mapping screen but just states not connected.

Based on this I would guess there is some issue with the chartplotter, maybe a setting or some thing. I did a little search on the internet but did not come across any reference to a similar problem. I have a e-mail in to Garmin but I have not heard back yet but it has not been very long yet.

Just curious if any one had any ideas to resolve this.

I had the issue with a GSPMAP unit doing the same thing. I did an software update on both the kraken and the 8612 and that fixed the issue. I don’t know which or both updates fixed the issue. One thing I will say is the update on Active Captain for the units has to be done separately. I didn’t realize that the kraken doesn’t install the update until you shut the motor off and then it will update it. I sat there for hours trying to reload it over and over until I found a video showing that once the motor is shut off then the unit will load the new software.

Call Garmin… it’s a lot faster and their cust. service is second to none!
800-800-1020 If there is a longer wait time they will call you back shortly. They will walk you through the process and get you up and running! Good Luck

My software on the chartplotters was not that old but I did a software update this morning to the chartplotters and the problem was exactly the same as my earlier listing.

I looked up the instructions on updating the Kraken but I hit a wall about half way through the process. I will have to watch the video again and see what I am doing wrong. Maybe I will attempt this later with assistance from my son….

I watched a couple of videos that were not getting me very far on a update to the Kraken trolling motor. On my 3rd video attempt I found one which showed a couple of different steps that allowed me to get past the roadblocks that I encountered following the first 2 videos….

I was finally able to update the Kraken software and it is now reconnecting with the chartplotter after shutting it down and starting back up.
