Charged My Flasher Last Night

I’ve read over the years to charge your ice flasher during the offseason around the Memorial Day and Labor Day times, so I charged my flasher last night. I’m not trying to wish this nice weather away or anything, it’s been great weather lately, but once I turned that flasher on to make sure everything worked, I’m not gonna lie, I got excited to see lines on there in a few months…..

I throw mine on the charger once a month throughout the summer. At least that’s what I try to do…

I just charge my 12v batteries. I don’t even know how to charge a flasher… wink

I truly wonder why?? I have followed this protocol in years past. Every time I did, I’d plug the charger in and the indicator would glow red or orange (charging). I’d come back 5 minutes later and the indicator would be green, telling me the battery was still fully charged. Now I just hook it up the night before my first outing and do the “5 minute” charge then.

I suppose it’s still fun to get it out now, maybe when I get home I’ll go turn all mine on and then sit there with a beer and a TUCR. peace

At least one of my 10 flasher batteries should work should I choose to actually ice fish this winter.

So I have to admit something… I charge my batteries 3 times a week, cycling through all 3 batteries.

My kid keeps them in constant rotation with is Peg Pergo John Deere Tractor.

I don’t think I have unplugged the charge this year!

Had my FL20 given a good once over/cleaned up at Vexilar last off-season (which they did at no charge!!). They told me to just leave the charger plugged in year round when I’m not using the unit. They said the charger is digital and won’t cause any harm being on but will prevent any draw-down and maximize battery life…..I’m just the messenger here and not smart enough to provide nor argue the point.

I just keep my Vex FL-28 hooked up to Battery Tender Jr. and forget about it until ice season.
