Yep. New owners are using it for a private retreat. Another resort down the drain for Mille Lacs.

Best wishes for the Chapmans as they move on.

Sad news. I knew it was coming although not necessarily a sale to a buyer choosing to make it a private property.

Sad not only because of the loss of another small ma and pa resort, but more significantly the only operation maintaining a plowed road and access in Isle Bay. Invaluable to have Tim out early ice checking ice conditions and establishing the roads out there, plowing and having the best, safest access out there in Isle Bay.

He typically was the first out on Mille Lacs ice and the last one off, primarily because of his Isle Bay location.

Countless thousands have relied on him to open and maintain access over many years.

I know both Tim and Tina personally having visited with Tina at the resort and fishing with Tim. They will be missed and with the resort property going private, there should be serious concern if there’ll be anyone else to fill the void.

And before anyone jumps to conclusions on reasons for selling, knowing them I sensed after 28 years they just had enough. Tim I know was having back problems and I believe he just couldn’t keep it up anymore.

I certainly wish them the best, but still saddened to see the end of another great little business.

Andy just like thousands of other resorts in MN and WI over the last 25 years. Sold off as condos or tore down and 2 or 3 mansions built on the property. I mean I understand the financial why but it is sad to see them go.

Andy they did say that Hunter Windfields will maintain a road, but understand what you are saying. Chapmanā€™s are good people unfortunately the highest bidder was a private party looking to keep it that way. Not many folks want to work 7 days 365 anymore.

Tim was a great man. His knowledge will certainly be missed the most. Andy’s entire post is right, he had a great early/late ice spot and did a great job getting people on the lake in Isle Bay. I wish them the best but would have hoped for that resort to be ran in a similar fashion. We shall see if Hunter Winfield can keep the same thing going.

That really sucks. I enjoyed going out of Chapmans’ as well as chatting with Tim when I went up there. They treated us really well when we had a couple of company ice fishing trips up there as well. Sad news.
